From my most recent experience this week,
I'd say that if anyone was considering freighting Subaru bits from the United States to Australia, going by the information available on the internet sites USPS (United States Postal Service) > Priority Mail > International Rate > Flat Rate Boxes would be the GO.
box sizes
Large Flat Rate Box
12" x 12" x 5.5" about $56
ALERT NOT SURE OF WEIGHT LIMIT - NEED TO ASK
Medium Flat Rate Box
11" x 8.5" x 5.5"
EDIT the two sizes above have weght limit of up to 20 lbs (9,071grams) depending on country of destination. Appears the reason is for observing handling limits of destination country OH&S rules, not for reducing weight for an increase in distance carried.
The reciprocal carrier in Australia is Express Post but the goods are not carried at same speed of their 'overnight' service. just that they are the carriers.
As AusPost have a 20kg limit which is 44 lbs it appears that the maxmum of 20 lbs from US to Australia is allowed.
I got a fright to say the least when pricing with other carriers A$1100 down to US$350 for same item and weight, different delivery time frames though.
Looks like the flat rate boxes will do the job for another thirty percent less.
Will come back to advise how things went
Wonder if anyone can do a reverse trip in new thread soon?
