Digital dash repair??

I think this has been covered in part before showthread.php?t=3875&highlight=digital (for example), but helping my Uncle's good friend with 84 coupe with digital dash.

When they stop working, is there a specific common fault to look for, or it just the usual electronic troubleshooting (dry joints, cracked CB etc)?

I would suggest converting to an analogue dash, unless anyone here has expereince / can suggest a starting point? Anyone fixed one of these in the past? Or do they just do one's head in?

there is one in a wrecking yard in Murwillumbah, NSW, there are two, I think it is 'southside' but call both, its in a Twagon
