Dizzy dramas???

Post by sb2752 » Wed Dec 09, 2009 8:21 pm

Hi everybody, recently i have attempted to convert an old 88 L wagon from carby to efi turbo. I have just about finished when i found a problem and i carnt seem to find to get around. after swaping the harness to an efi one, which was a mission. i went to plug the dizzy in a found out the wires diffrent. The plug from the dizzy has 4 wires but the plug from the harness has 3. i was thinking il jst find the 3 wired dizzy and switch it over, but carnt fnd any anywhere i dont even know what they come out of. The ecu i have is a 4 plug and it has a hot wire air meter, i thing the dizzy on the engine is a crank angle sensor one. every thing plugs in except the dizzy.

Il put some pics up. i rescued this old girl from a farm paddock and im fixing here up, iv done some work to the motor and put a tdo4 turbo on it and a few other things. hopefully il be screaming around the dirt tracks. any help would be gladly appreciated

Those wires you are holding in the 2nd last photo look too big to be dizzy wires.

The wiring you are looking for should come out near the coil and will have a plug on the end that matches the plug on the dizzy. Will be 4 small circular connections moulded into a squarish shaped plug.

Where did you get the engine and wiring loom?

Also, can you give details and more photos of your TD04 install. I fitted a TF035 to my EA82T and am always curious of how others do it

hi suparoo the plugs you are talking about dosnt match. the harness that comes out of the dizzy is a 4 wire harness. the main harness on the body that is spos to plug into the dizzy only has 3 wires and it dosnt even have a plug lol. i bought the engine and harness as a convetion kit of a bloke on ebay its a jap import motor apparently
yer no worries il put some more pics and details about the turbo.

looks like you have the 4 plug ECU dizzy, has no old fashioned dizzy guts, no vacuum advance cannister. Thought there was no difference in any of the 4 plugger dizzies. I have seen non turbo efi 1985 Vortex had no knock sensor? and had vac advance cannister, never counted wires on it. You need a wiring diagram for 4 plug ECU dizzy conns to see where each of those four wires go for it to work correctly. Finding a three wired dizzy may not be right path to try. Try discopotato03 he may have diagram. Put up new post with titled :WANT diagram EA82T 4plug ECU dizzy to zero in some help

The 3 wires you are holding there look more like the wiring to the alternator. One thick white wire and two smaller ones.

The wiring to the dizzy is much thinner wire, and at least 2 of the wires are possibly shielded. If you have a 4 plug ecu, you should definitely have 4 wires going to the dizzy.

Can you post some pics of all the wires in that area of the engine bay? We might be able to help.
