! Engine LIght Error on dash !

Post by Boko » Thu Sep 24, 2009 11:31 pm

Hi guys, new to the forum and i was hoping i could get some assistant.

I am driving with my Liberty LX from 97' EJ22, and at random times i will just hear like a switching noise from the dashboard, and suddenly the engine revs will drop to like 800rpm and the CHECK ENGINE light will appear on the dash.

sometimes it stay longer some time shorter.

what could this passably be ? may be just a fault in the computer and can be cleared from the memory with a scanner ? has any body ever encountered this type of problem ?

Cheers guys.

Boko,

Have a read of this thread - Error codes for early EJ series liberty.

That might have the answer you're after.

Cheers

It is hard to believe, but it is possible that your check engine / read memory connectors are almost connected, and a little vibration causes them to fully engage. I had this happen once, but only because I hadn't unplugged them properly. Normally they should NOT be connected.

Subydazz, I'm pretty sure they're meant to be UN plugged - you've said that in the first sentance above then said different in the second...

Mine are UN plugged and is running well. That doesn't mean its the same problem though. Check it out Boko and get back to us with the results.

Cheers

or its possible there is something wrong. If i were you, connect the connectors and get the error codes then disconnect the battery to reset the computer and go for a drive and see if you do get errors again and check what it is.
Cheers
