Hi guys!

New user here, and new to the scene as a whole really. Not a hell of alot of knowledge but learning quickly! Have been predominantly involved in the V8/streetcar scene in Bunbury since i was a young tacker but now im a bit older and not much wiser i now realise a lowered 5.7litre VT Calais aint the greatest for camping, and doesnt fair too well entering the sand around dalyellup or belvedere.

That said, i picked up an '88 sportswagon for $1100 which i went halves in with a bloke from work as something we can tinker with and enjoy that bit of offroad fun! Its rego'd and running...which is about the best i can say for it lol. The roo bar is bent, the spotties dont work, the tyres are bald, its got rust, and a bad exhaust leak but in about 3 weeks she should be ready to rumble!

Already in the store room at work we've sussed out a Pioneer CD player that owes us nothing, and a GME UHF with antenna that owes us nothing. Good start we think.

Replace the nearly blown 6x9's in the back and inside entertainment will be done. Spotties are going to be an easy fix and the roo bar will get tied to a sea container while we gently reverse her back...all fixed! After that some new 14" tyres, rubber guard flares, and a new exhaust gasket will see us then just maintaining and enjoying the old girl.

One picture of her the day i picked her up last Monday, but keep an eye for us on a track/dune near you!

Hey mate, Welcome and congrats, that looks like a great car at a good price. I see its a touring wagon, the MPFI engine. thats good cause if you plan to do a conversion like mine(link below) its hell easy. Two things you might want to do is the rust around the windscreen and the rear quarter window(plastic trim pulls off easy with a flat head screw driver). Those are two of the most common places for rust. Just a good scrub/sanding, rust converter, primer and paint should help to prevent it from getting real bad.

For the cd player you will need a kinda deck spacer as you will notice when installing.
You will definately have fun in this car, they are more capable than they look.
Enjoy:)

Hi mate,

I was under the impression that i had a sports wagon due to the low rise roof. As i've said, definately still learning. The old girl has the carby fed EA82 heart though, not the MPFI. The rust is something we may address later but not in any real hurry. Its not all that bad and the old girl is only used on offroad adventure days, during the week she lives locked up in the workshop and only really brought out on purpose planned missions.

She's a $1000 bunky and will be treated as such, but at the same time im quite maticulous with my vehicles and theres no reason this old girl wont go forever.

I've already given her a two tone paint job (resprayed bottom half), and fixed exhaust leak. Next will be rocker gaskets as theres a bit of a leak, fairly common i would assume. Fascia for the CD player is already in place, and the car will feel the wrath of the buffer this weekend to bring out the best of the paint, and spotties rewired so they may light the way for all. Two new tyres probably next week so she's all ready to go for my camping trip on the upcoming long weekend.

Expect more pictures when she's ready!
