1998 outback 2.5i Clutch Problems Not disengaging?
1998 outback 2.5i Clutch Problems Not disengaging?
Just got a 1998 outback, my first car. Second day of driving it the clutch stuck.
I was coming of a highway i changed down to 4 but the clutch wouldnt disegage so it was like trying to flat change it. You can put the clutch pedal to the floor but it still dosnt disengage? I think that the pressure plate has broken locking them together. This sucks any info on what you think has gone wrong. And i havnt been doing burnouts.
Also does this model have a dual mass fly wheel or a single?
Thanks

got fluid? is the pedal hard or does it go straight on the floor? this will have a hydolic clutch so there maybe and issue here. so check the fluid and check to see if the slave cylinder is moving, i just had to replace rhe rubber hose on my gen3 RX.

I have checked the fluid and its fool. The clutch seems to be prity normal maby a little bit harder then normal. Also i can not see it moving but i can hear it. Makes it it hard to check stuff on it because its parked at mates place not far away from were it happend which is like one hour way from my place.

I think Gen2 outback has cable clutch...??
Can you clarify if its '98 Gen 2 or Gen 3 Outback?
If its Gen 3 Outback it has hydraulic clutch.

Most people replace the dual mass flywheel for a solid when they do the clutch - that's the trend on ORS anyway...
From the thread on ORS:

The bad news is that it cost $2200 to get him back on the road with a solid flywheel and exceedy clutch
I'm sticking with this being your problem with trying to disengage the clutch.

From the thread on ORS:
Here's a pic of the cracked - more broken - clutch pressure plate from the 2002 XS forester:Had a bit(!) of a problem with my clutch a few weeks back. All of a sudden, the clutch would only partially engage (4000rpm for 60km/h in 4th gear) and wouldn't fully disengage when the pedal was pushed. Luckily this happened only a few suburbs away from home and my local mechanic's shop.
The NRMA organised a tow truck to the workshop (mechanic was rather surprosed to see me again so soon after having fitted new tyres and starter) and I left the car with them to fit a new Exedy clutch and solid flywheel in place of the OEM dual-mass (ie squeaky) unit.

The bad news is that it cost $2200 to get him back on the road with a solid flywheel and exceedy clutch

I'm sticking with this being your problem with trying to disengage the clutch.

jeez... that is bad isnt it... other cheaper option is to get a flywheel from wreckers and new clutch kit if in that case.. I doubt it that outback has dual flywheel.El_Freddo wrote:Most people replace the dual mass flywheel for a solid when they do the clutch - that's the trend on ORS anyway...

If it ends up having a DMF, here are the parts numbers and quantity's for the conversion to solid;
Flywheel 12342AA090
Flywheel Bolts 800610740 x 8
Clutch Disk 30100AA870
Clutch Cover 30210AA620
Release Bearing 30502AA051
RRP off all that is $1528.73.
Just the DMF flywheel RRP is $1878.90...
I know which way I'd go - or should I say, which way I went.
