Going to NZ
I meant to post earlier in the week,..but ive been too busy
Me, Amanda (gf) and my Dad are going to New Zealand for 10 days for a holiday
We fly to Sydney tomorrow, then fly to Christchurch tomorrow afternoon. We will stay in Christchurch for a day, then we fly to Wellington, where we will pick up a hire car (i tried to get a Legacy, but it was too expensive, so we settled for a Pulsar instead) and drive to Auckland, stopping in as many places as possible along the way. Pubs and cheap motels are gonna be our accommodation.
Expect a big post with a diary of the places we went and the things we saw, when we get back.
If i see any cool subes, i'll take photos
See you all in 10 days!

Bit slow off the mark Gannon!!! This would be one of the main reasons for going to NZ for me...Suparoo wrote:Oh i didnt even think of bringing back rare parts......mmmmmm..... RX brakes and swaybars, xt6 5 stud hubs and brakes, or even better, a whole XT6.

Ok,... just got home.
We spent a day in christchurch, then flew to wellington, picked up our car and after dropping into the zoo, stayed at hamitangi beach. We then made our way up towards taupo, checking out volcanos and glow worm caves along the way. Next was rotorua (which smells like rotten egg fart) where we saw gyezers, steaming rocks and bubbling mud pools. We then headed east to the coromandel peninsular, hotwater beach and finally ending up in auckland where we jumped off the sky tower, falling 192m (60 stories) in 11 seconds is awesome.
I want to move to NZ just for the cars they have.
There seem to be more turbo Legacys (libertys) over there than non turbo models. Especially Gen2 GT's and Gen3 B4's
I didnt see many foresters (no 09 models), and a few imprezas and handfull of wrxs
I also noticed that they dont have subaru badges on the front, but that lightning bolt, S looking badge, and foresters have the big F badge
I saw 2 L series wagons, 2 L series sedans and a blue brumby with a bonnet scoop. Alas there were no RX's, vortex's or MY sedans, wagons or coupes.
It seems there are no restrictions on japanise imports.
I saw lots of 4 door nissan skyline sedans, a few nissan pulsar 4wd RX's (similar in theme to the impresa Rx with its 2 tone body)
There were full wagon models of what we normally have 5 door hatches of, like nissan pulsar and mazda 323
What holden re-badge as their own, rodeos, fronteres and jackaroos, are all isusu and vectras have their propper opel badge.
We drove a nissan sunny 1300km from wellington to auckland. It appears to be a sedan version of a silvia or 180sx.
Any questons?

Welcome back. Sounds like a great trip and there was even some time for some Subaru spotting.

I bet the scenery was breathtaking while you were driving around. My folks went there recently and have been in the past too and it's all they talk about. I think this is why almost all Car adverts we see on TV are shot there. I havn't been lucky enough to go myself but I rekon if I ever do I'll try to make it part of full round-Australia road trip in my wagon
Take her over on a boat. Or actually by that stage I will have probably modified it to be amphibious!
