Lovin' my subie in San Diego

Post by Bigdaddy » Wed Feb 11, 2009 2:24 am

Hey guys and gals,
My names Brian and I run a 1981 GL wagon w/ EA81, Dual range, 4speed, and 67,000 (107,00km) original miles.

What a cool car. Mine has the goofy "passing lamp" that has become one of my favorite features. Great as an offroad lamp, though I'll probably add more lights, as time goes by...

to date I've:
-fitted a refreshed cooling system (radiator, upper/lower hoses, thermostat, fan thermal switch)
-fitted new front CV driveshafts/axles
-fitted new lower ball joints
-fitted two thule crossbars for the heavy stuff.

-added a bit of kit in the back(simple stuff, spanners, etc.) as well as some spares (my old radiator hoses, fuel filter, fuses, etc.)

Plans:
-bull bar/tow point in front.
-"Bajarack" brand rooftop rack (http://www.bajarack.com...I like the mega mule)
-re-spray fading paint
-continue to restore emblems/badges etc.
-work out a full size spare storage location. (up on rack or swing-away probably.)

here's some pics:

by the way, this is just some junk in the back, my kit is in a proper soft-sided tool
bag, with some rear storage work yet to be done.

this last one is where the car lived for years and years. This is a ski-town called wrightwood.
Its high-elevation desert (very dry) so the car actually has zero rust, and is in REALLY
good shape. Thats my dad, in the white sweater, drooling over the car.

Great site and great community, from what I've seen so far. I daily drive the
"warwagon" to work each day, and also plan on some forays into the
california deserts, so I'm sure I'll be tapping into the broad knowledge base.

Regards,
Brian aka BigDaddy

Wecome to the forum.
Did thay all come with the Blue inside over there? over here all you could get was brown and brown, later on about 83 I think you could Gray, but the Blue did not come till the L" when you could have Blue or Brown and later on Gray, the RX turbos all had Black with a white cheek.

Good luck with all the mods you have planed for your Suby.
I had one just like it but red.

Rik.

hi, riksta...not sure...I've only seen a couple, and they were brown and blue, respectively, so I think there were a few options other than my checked blue interior
