Its an NA EJ22, these engines are tough and they aren't ideal engines to give performance also they aren't performance wise. You'll be wasting money to try gain 5HP out of it!
ONLY way is to get EJ20 with turbo to fit in same as RS Liberty.
Sorry to say this above.
Cheers

Try searching ozliberty.com and rslibertyclub.org. Everyone will say the same thing as AP, and I agree with what he said. The general idea is to stick to handling mods with NA libs. Spend money on the engine when you have a dizzy :)

Yeah I agree... Engine is a no on NA, but body mods is fine - ie. sway bars, suspensions etc

You could gain a few horsepower if you got some tuned headers and a 2.25 free flowing exhaust, but i wouldnt expect any more than 5-10hp

Dont bother with pod filters and cold air intakes. Your car has a factory cold air intake and the stock panel filter (providing its reasonably clean) flows plenty well enough. You might gain a bit (plus a bit of induction noise) by removing the resonator box in the drivers side wheel arch.

Also dont overlook a general tune up, like ignition leads, new filters and oil ect.

But yeah, as mentioned above, if you want a fast NA subaru, spend your money on suspension/tyres
