Tassie fuel hits $135!

Post by Bumpty » Sun Sep 14, 2008 10:34 am

I didn't think I'd ever see this again,
Just before smithton (driving from stanley), take a left, as if going to Marrawah. And a few hundred meters up the road to the right is a self serve servo (fuel card) with a $135 across the 3 bowsers!
Felt like I was making money when I filled up.
Unfortunately this place is bout 45mins from me, in the wrong direction of where I usually go. Where has anyone else found some really low random fuel prices? I thought $135 was low, maybe there is lower...

Either way it should be lower - australia can produce its own fuel supply plus surplus, so why are we paying "world oil prices"? Cos the bloody government is addicted to the tax it earns from the higher fuel price.

from what I think I know (please correct me if I'm wrong) we do not produce all the petrol we use, and import up to 1/4 of what we use annually.
our prices are indexed to the Singapore market, as it is the hub for the Asia/Pacific region.
Diesel is the worst affected by this, as Singapore imports all of its fuel, and they don't use much diesel, making it abnormally high.
I have an info sheet I received by email, but without researching the figures cited, I won't post it as mis-information is worse than ignorance (but better than apathy).
