Modded WRX TD04 Turbo .

Post by discopotato03 » Sat Aug 23, 2008 10:21 am

No time atm so briefly , it turns out that JDM EJ205 WRXs (whatever they are) don't use the same TD04 that USDM and ADM EJ205's do .
The Aus/US ones use a TD04L-13T-6 turbo where the Jap ones used a TD04HL-15T-6 turbo .

In laymans terms the compressor uses a slightly larger inducer (up from 40.64 to 42mm) but importantly the turbine is the larger (largest ?) in the TD04 family using the same sized 6cm turbine housing .

Am hunting in US to see if I can rat up an original TD04HL turbine housing though a few have said "just bore out the std one" .
I would much prefer to use an original housing or turbo as often the manufactures make subtle alterations inside the housing to make them work properly .

If I can get just a housing it would allow me to use the larger HL turbine in a basically std Rex turbo which would reduce turbine inlet (backpressure) and allow my engine to rev and make power without high boost pressure .

Out of fingers and time , cheers A .
