82 brumby alterations

hi new to this have a ute and wanting to do a few adjustments but just doin my homework first wanting to replace 4 speed with 5 speed if i use one out of a leone or simular will it bolt straight in and do i need to replace diff head too also wanting to drop 3 inches as i use for my quad (which fits perfect on deck) which would make it easier to get on and off plus look mint for the front just gona lower springs and for rear gona wind down rear suspension and shorter strutts is this the best way to drop the rear and heres the big one looking at goin 13b if i get to keep 4wd which is looking like is gona be a mission not too sure im on the right track here help!!!!!!!

You will need a resized tailshaft,new crossmember,an L series pedal box and matching ratios.13b you are kidding keep it sube it's more reliable.

I don't know why you need to use the L pedal box... The MY's don't physically have a pedal box - its all mounted off the body on a shaft.

The reference to keeping the same ratios from I Need A Beer is with regards to the rear and front diffs - these need to be matched for the 4wd system to work properly.

If you're going to go for the 13B rotary I'd be looking at an AWD gearbox from a liberty onwards. This will require a little more work - either way you'll need an adaptor plate, crossmember, gearbox shifter linkages and shortening of the tail shaft.

With the liberty box you'll need to either a) change the inner cups on the driveshafts to fit the 25 spline of the lib's stub axles or b) split the box and change the stub axles on the front diff to that of the Carbie L series gearbox. If 4wd is important, swap the L series Low Range into the Liberty gearbox at the same time but as you've mentioned lowering the subi this is most likely not important.

Hope this is of some help. I don't know how the rotary will handle the forward gear ratios but it should be at home at cruising speed with the revs sitting at about 3000 RPM - about the same as dad's old series 2 automatic RX7 we had 8)

I have seen pedal boxes on both MY and L, just that an L pedal box is not going to just bolt in an MY. The L series 5 speed into MY needs a mod to the MY pedal cable set up using L cable, L throw out bearing and arm

for all the answers mate have a look at my conversion to my very old EA81


website in my sig below and just follow the links to the gearbox conversion.

in short evrything drops in but be preapred to spend a bit of time doing it.

And if i was doing it agian i wouldnt use a custom shaft i would simply take the donor l series' tail shaft with associated bolts and stuff that hold the central universal (makes sense when you are under one.
