HID Install 96 Liberty H4 Hi&Lo

Post by AlpineRaven » Sat Jul 26, 2008 11:31 pm

G'day guys,
Just installed HIDs on my Liberty... Here is pictures below (all photos below are without JDM fog light being turned on)-

Picture of standard 50/55w Halogen lights -

HIDs 35w (wet surface - just been raining -> will upload dry surface when I get the chance) -

• High Beam (Halogen built-in with HID)

Wiring -
Had problems with factory wiring that came with it, so had to modify it to make it work on Subaru's "negative" power. The HIDs works on Camry & Commodore as they're "Positive" power. The problem was - when I first got it, I had to place pins in correct place, On low beam & high beam was on at the same time, if I flick on full beam the HIDs flickers with high beam then shuts down. So had to cut off black wires and move it to other pinouts (see the diff in photos) then full beam works. There is only one ballast for HIDs but not full beam.

(green wire is positive for full beam)

In my opinion -
So far, HIDs are so much better in low beam - has further spread of lights in front, (tonight the road was wet, with halogen its not very good but in dry). But full beam, *sigh*..... is sh¡t - I expected it would've been better! there is a lot of shutter all over the place... I need to do something about it and still working out in my mind about it... might do some modifications on the HIDs by installing 55watt globe as what they would use for full beam - if 55 watts fails, I'll install 100watt running on relays. At the moment I didn't install relays and I am going to, just didn't have high gauge wires as have sh¡t ones here.

Cheers

Coming home from Dandenongs - was breathed out how good the HIDs were, could see the reflections from signs approx 20-25 metres in front, can see line reflective marking (even day time as well) the conditions today was pouring with rain and could see nearly everything... I give myself thumbs up about HIDs, havent had flashbacks from other drivers yet.... I'm thinking about going to modify my HIDs for full beam by installing different HIDs that enables you to use full beam with HIDs with 2 Ballasts - dunno about that yet... - gotta do some more research.
