FWD To 4WD

Post by subyleone » Thu Jul 03, 2008 7:58 am

I have a FWD EA71 MY Subaru. I wish to make it 4WD driva and have a dead 4WD EA82 parts car. Would this change be straight forward ie mostly a bolt on job? Anyone who has done this before I would love to hear from you. Thanks.

i did the same conversion to my 83 mod leone. but mine had the ea81 engine. to put the ea82 in you have to spread the rails there is alot of stuffing around id put the same as mine with the ea81 engine and dual range box. my doner car was the same series wagon witch i picked up for 200 bucks.

I would leave the EA82 if that's what you were going to do.

To get 4wd you will need a different rear end suspension setup to the EA82 setup, this may be the hard part.

The EA82 gearbox and rear diff should all bolt up with a few mods to the gearbox crossmember, the engine/gearbox bolt pattern will be the same, use the EA82 flywheel and clutch.

The parts you may need to source: Rear end to bolt under your EA71 subi, get the drive shafts while your there.

The rest will be a pretty simple process.

Cheers
