weber EA82 conversion

Post by esray71 » Sun Jun 22, 2008 11:27 am

G'day, just wondering if anyone might have some advice on the weber EA82coversion? i have fitted the weber and blocked off some vac hoses but having problems with coolant leaking. The small hose that goes to the bottom of the (original carb) I have blocked off because i'm thinking i don't want that coolant near the gasket under the adaptor plate in case it might leak later on. But now the coolant is leaking, i think from that same small hose but further back where it connects to the metal pipe running to the heater. Maybe connection is not tight enough or the pressure is too great and has to release at the weakest point, the join? I'm thinking of joining that hose to the hose running from the block (using a "T" piece) to the inlet under the thermostat, do you think this is a good way to go? Any help would be grealty appreciated, cheers.

May be of some help...some manifolds have a square hole under the carby /manifold gasket for water to heat things up. If you have this I cannot help. If you have the round hole I tap M12 1.25 pitch thread [no need to drill out] and screw in a matching bolt thread with sealing tape etc, cut slot in head to screw in. I drled out the rusty water pipe feeding just under from the left and tapped to suit M8 1.25 grub screw. I will remember the rest soon when i do my next one

thanks for the info, just to get it going for this week i just connected all of the small water hoses, seems to be no pressure building up and leaking at any join at the moment. Next weekend i'll put the other manifold on and try your suggestions. Also have some tuning of the carb to do, took it for a run and it does accelerate quite well and has a bit more of a note from the exhaust (a few leaks helps there), has a bit of a flat spot but not bad but worst of all when i turn off the car the engine want to keep running so i put it in gear with foot on brake and stall it, but it's not too bad. Any suggestions on how fix that problem? i have a weber tuning book that i'll read up on.
