ej18 conversion for my EA81 sedan.
I've already got the radiator modified for the right size hose. I think I'll hunt down some good flexible stuff rather than ghetto up something.
Just picked up a pod filter adaptor and hooked a pod onto it. rotating it to the other side sounds like a good idea, but I like suba's with the pod right behind the engine on the spare wheel holder. What did you do with the hoses that go into the intake ?

I used the hoses that came on the EJ allthough I did have to cut them on an angle to get them just right.
You can see in the pic the parts of the original piping for the intake , I did have to dremel out the pipe that conects to the intake as it was slightly smaller than it need to be , I think I made it about 3mm larger iner diamiter, just kept grinding away till it fitted nice and snug.
The part that the pod attatched to was made by a ally frabricator, cost me 30 dollars.
The vacume lines , the two that come from either rocker cover were joined with a T piece and then the open of the T went into the intake chamber.

Status update:
Had everything done bar exhaust ( just headers for now ) car starts great but can't push it into gear. Looks like a bad pressure plate, I dropped the gearbox using two scissor jacks sitting on a trolley. Am looking for a L series pressure plate if anyone has one ... may just buy one so i can get this going asap.
Throttle cable was the wrong sort, engine end was too large and when dodgied to work it is a wee bit short so blipping the throttle didn't do too much compared to operating it by hand. Probably enough to limp it to somewhere like a bike shop to get a custom one made.

It's pretty much offroad only, so not too concerned about the handling
beside's it is an MY not an L ... dunno about handling differences between the two.
That reminds me, I haven't worked out where to plug in the temp sensor wire to ... do I just splice it into the original one going to the radiator, or is there somewhere on the engine to attach it to ?

Apparently the ecu output for the temp gauge can be used but reads different and takes a bit of getting used to.
The other options are to fit an MY temp sender somewhere in the top radiator hose or fit it in place of the thermo fan switch which is no longer needed because the ecu drives the fans now (via relay of course)
Jordan.

The White with green trace is the one you are looking for. It comes from the engine and is stripped out for you. Connect it to your temp guage. That reminds me, I haven't worked out where to plug in the temp sensor wire to ... do I just splice it into the original one going to the radiator, or is there somewhere on the engine to attach it to ?
Ohhhh right I see ... so the one of the engine plugs already carries the temp to the ecu and the the wire you mention just goes to the temp guage? I thought I needed to plug it into the engine somewhere ... Does the same go for the other wire you'd labled ... oil i think it was ?
I'm using the MY temp sensor in the radiator to go to the temp guage ... any reason I wouldn't keep using it ?

That sensor in the radiator is the thermoswitch for the aux. fan. You can continue to use it to trigger your fan, but it doesn't have anything to do with the temp guage. I put an EA81 temp sender in a pipe inline in my top rad hose for the guage to read like normal. Of course that wire you mentioned will also run the temp guage, it'll just read cooler than it should.stinky wrote:I'm using the MY temp sensor in the radiator to go to the temp guage ... any reason I wouldn't keep using it ?
