Spider EA82T idling fast

Post by nncoolg » Tue Jun 24, 2008 7:03 pm

Hi guys, having a little trouble with the XT...

Doesnt fast idle when its cold, fast idles (1300) when its hot(normal temp)
Also, uses WAY TOO MUCH FUEL for an EA82T (22MPG on trip)

Already checked for vacuum leaks

So... I reckon it could be 1 of 2 things :
  • IAC valve (not the black shutter one on the RX type EA82's)
    Coolant temp sensor
What do you's reckon...had similar dramas?

any help greatly appreciated :)

it sounds like the engine had its idle speed sorted when it was cold, once it warms up it idles higher. Any adjustments should be done when the engine is at operational temp.

Fuel use - you'll have to talk Litres/100km for me. Not really up with the mile per gallon anymore.

It could be a range of things, I'll let others that have an EA2T answer first as I may not be as accurate.

Cheers

The spider EA82's use what I call the 1/2 dumb bell cold start air bypass valve . It will have a Bosch style injector plug on it and two rubber hoses either side of the chamber end .

As a quick check you could remove the hoses when the engine is at running temp and make sure its "window" has closed up .
Sometimes these valves lemon out at high mileages but there are 2nd hand ones to be had from various Nissans .

Anyhow I'd block these hose and set the idle speed on the throttlebodys screw valve .
You may also want to check that the aircon's idle up valve (hexagonal steel thing) has not failed open and is causing an air leak around the throttle when the AC is not on .

If the car is Vortex then it's heavier than an L Series and how much that affects mileage I don't know .

Cheers A .
