EJ22 Code 47

Post by Matatak » Tue Jan 29, 2008 12:48 am

so code 47 equals the Fuel injector.

surely that wuld mean its a wiring issue wuldnt it? ie dodgy connection somwhere or a screwed injector (no not a blocked one) which somehow doesnt let signals over the 2 pins connect therfore ECU gets muddled and thinks it will throw this code (and no i dont no if thats right just i thught i had)

code doesnt come by connecting black connectors and turning ignition on. only comes when green AND black are connected then driving car and looking at codes after.
also get code 51 and 52 this way but i figure thats Auto related Sh*te (inhibitor Switch and Parking switch) and wuldnt cause power problems in my car

Have you tried just connecting the green plugs then turning the key to the on position? Sorry to ask if you have but from the way I read your thread it sounded like you hadn't.

What year is your EJ22? I had this code come up before and it was from the wrong resistance in the injectors but I doubt this is the problem because it sounds like you have been running this setup for awaile?

Sorry... I may have mislead you earlier, I just tryed getting the codes out of a Liberty today... Connect the green plugs and start the car, then let the engine run until you read the same code twice. Then turn the car off. The engine will run in Limp mode for that time but will not hurt it, fans should cycle on and off whilst it is in this mode. Once you have all the codes then make sure you disconnect the green plugs.

I thought that connect green plugs, shows current codes
Connect Green and Black, shows stored codes.

Reset the ECU, then see if it reappears

Possible dirty wiring conectors... i have problems with the big main ones going to my motor... bit of water in there and i start getting a knock sensor fault. Or simply one injector could be on it's way out.

i swear there is nothing wrong with my injectors.

my first thught wiith this surging problem was that the TPS is doin it.

now i disconnected the TPS and drove it. while it runs abit rougher, IE high idle (2000 + lol) and sometimes doesnt provide full power when accelarating (sometimes taking off runs to rich i guess not full power).
overall its a MUCH better drive than when it had surging problems..

my AF Guage also responds alot better when TPS is D/C only use to start responding properly above 100KM/H before. now it responds in all ranges.

Has it been doing it ever since you did the conversion or just started after a little while?

Ok... done some quick reasearch.... was your old lib an Auto??

Code 47 is NOT fuel injectors. The fuel injector codes are 14,15,16 and 17.

Code 47 IS the Economy Switch Circuit which is found on Automatic Models only.

To fix this i assume you want the ecconomy mode switched off. There is a wire coming off the ECU that you need to give a 12v ignition feed. If you still belive code 47 is fuel injector related then ignore this. If you want me to tell you what wire you need to join to where then i can help.

http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/ ... efinitions

Thats a site u told me about awhile ago Subarino. whihc is where i was going off the Fuel injector being code 47.
but now u mention it...it makes sense that it wuldnt be Fuel injectors as why wuld they have a broad "Fuel Injector" code when they have Injector specific codes also.

so Subarino...tell me which wire to give a feed to. or wuld u like to do it for me :p

RSR 555 - Yes that is how i read the codes. and it was 4 long 7 quick flashes. along with 5 long 1 quick and 5 long 2 quick. whihc i had guessed are also auto related.

Yes it does - page 93. "Economy Switch Circuit (A/T only)"

Not entirely sure but it could be a brown/red wire coming from C11 or C14 in the ECU harness, depending on year model. Not sure if that will help?

Test Procedure from Gregory's Manual:

(1) Switch the ignition On and measure the voltage at the ECU connector C11. The voltage should be approx. 12V with the economy switch off and 0V with the switch On.
If the voltage is correct, check the wiring harness between the ECU and the economy switch, and between the economy switch and Earth for loose or dirty connections. If no fault can be found and code 47 is again displayed, renew the ECU.

(2) Disconnect the wiring from the economy switch as described in the Automatic Transaxle section and measure the resistance between the switch terminals 2 and 4. The resistance should be at least 1 megohm with the switch Off and 0 ohms with the switch On. If the resistance is not correct, renew the economy switch.

(3) Check the wiring harness between the ECU, the economy switch and earth for continuity and shorts. Repair or renew the wiring harness as necessary. If no fault can be found, replace the ECU.

.............................................................................................

So to my mind if you want this wire connected, all you have to do is supply it with a switch to a 12 volt source. - like Subarino says.

But here's the clincher for interested parties: The Power/Economy switch allows selection of two transmission shift modes. When Power mode is selected, the ECU delays the upshifts and the kickdown is more responsive.

Scoobypedia seems to relate only to Imprezas.

You forgot to add that it changes the Air/Fuel maping of the ECU also.

LOL, didn't put that because it makes no mention of it in the Owner's manual or the Gregory's. Those details are direct quotes.

I'd like to see what a Subaru mechanic that specialises in this area thinks. I'm not convinced.
