Liberty Oxygen Sensor P/N?

I appear to have a Bosch O2 sensor in my Liberty and I was looking to replace it, some of the numbers on it are rusted over so I can't read it.

I tried to read the catalog on the website but the BC Liberty/Legacy is not listed. There are Subaru Legacy and Impreza Kombis however?

Does anyone know the correct part number off hand?

Any universal o2 sensor will do, just check whether it a 1, 2, 3 or 4 wire one

The Bosch ones that you buy from auto stores ie. Bursons they're around $76 (forgot the part nbr but yes from EJ22 Liberty) - exactly same one as Subaru just different part number... Worth getting i guess.

i culdnt find a 3 Wire one on ebay. no point in downgrading to a 2 wire lol

but a 4 wire may be the go from ebay.

So if these sensors are universal, how come some have 2,3,4 or 5 wires? I assume that they aren't all the same? Don't they just send a voltage to the ECU?
I guess it depends on what voltage for what O2 level?

1 wire = Wire for signal, exhaust pipe/engine for ground
2 wire = One wire for signal, one wire for ground
3 wire = One wire for signal, 2 wires for heating element, exhaust pipe/engine ground
4 wire = One wire for signal, 2 wires for heating element, one wire for ground.


So if the liberty has a 3 wire sensor, buy a 4 wire and simply connect the ground wire to the chassis somewhere. A wired ground creates a better electrical path, rather than through a rusty exhaust pipe.

hehe youre wrong........i think

it has one for earth, one for power from igniton, and one for signal

either that or ive fuked my guage up. i did it to those 3 wires. (earth on guage jsut to the black wire.

andit works.

are you talking about an o2 sensor or a air/fuel gauge?

Yes an air/fuel gauge will have 3 wires- Ignition, Ground and Signal
Mine was Red-Ign, Blk-Gnd and Grey-Signal

As for a 3 wire oxygen sensor, this is from the ebay sellers website
The two white wires are the sensor heater wires. Polarity does not matter. The black wire is the Ecu signal wire.
So one white wire will go to Ignition, the other white wire will go to Ground, and the black wire will connect to the ECU.

Different manufacturers of universal o2 sensors may have different colour codes

now im confused.

im talking bout my Oxy sensor. has 3 wires. one ground (black - goes thru ECU i presume), one Ignition (red), and one Feed/signal (white.

it doesnt have 2 heater wires.
thats wt i meant anyway. and i jsut mentioned i hooked my guage up to it so it must have a ground through the black wire.



were u talking bout the EBAY oxy sensors have 3 wires but only grounds thru the exhaust?

An oxygen sensor doesnt need a power supply to operate, the only reason some oxygen sensors need power is to heat the tip of the sensor so it reaches operating temp (about 300degC) sooner

What engine do you have?
Did you install the o2 sensor?
And by gauge im assuming you mean Air/fuel ratio gauge?

Im assuming that the colours are different, im guessing that the red & black wires supply the heating element, and the white is the signal and goes to the ecu. The ground of the o2 sensor will most likely go through the exhaust/chassis

Did you install your a/f gauge?

Where did you pick up the signal wire and what colour was it?

no its stock, but i will be gettin a new one soon and i WILL install it myself. (why wuld i pay for others to do wt i can do :p)

Yep

Where did you pick up the signal wire and what colour was it?
Signal wire off OXY sensor is White, and hooked it up to the white wire on the A/F Guage and it gives me readings.
(it seems me qouting doesnt count to the '10 character minimum' lol)

No no, that explains why your gauge does work.

The red wire is positive/12v+
The black wire is negative/ground/earth

The heater is wired directly to the ignition, the same as your A/F gauge

The sensor part of the o2 sensor doesnt ground/earth through the black wire, it grounds through the exhaust pipe, the black wire is connected to the same ground/earth somewhere in the wiring loom.

So if you do buy a new o2 sensor from ebay....

The old red will connect to one of the whites of the new sensor
The old black will connect to one of the whites of the new sensor
And the old white will connect to the black of the new sensor

Its a little confusing i know, but i think ive explained it right
