Just get out and push it backwards whenever you need reverse.

Hey Shorty is your car AWD? (probably is im guessing).
This probably won't help but I've got a 2wd auto gearbox in working condition at my place, still in the car infact. It's from a Gen1 lib but probably the same.

Something might not be related.... I had an Commodore once, couldnt reverse only could drive forward when the gearbox was hot. Problem was that the gearbox needed service, once it was done it was fine.

Would it need an service?
Cheers

thats a good point....my old VK commodore used to act like the whole gearbox was totalled but it was always just low on fluid. They operate on oil pressure so that could be it.

We went without reverse for over a month. You learn to pick different parking spots, ones on a slop so you could roll back, or ones you could drive straight through, or Brett favorite park up to a garden bed or cement block and drive over it on your way out. Your a little bit low for the last one. It also helped we had a "circular" driveway.;)

Maybe its like the way my old fuel pump was back in WA. To get it going you had to thump it! Give that a go and see what happens :p (just don't get run over!)

Hope its just a clogged filter or something cheaper and less time consuming than a gearbox change...

Before you think the worst, get the transmission serviced.... if it still does it then you know there is something really wrong with the transmission.

sometimes auto trans have a band that locks to hold gears so that these things work, and sometimes there is an adjustment that affects how much clearance the band has. If the clearance is too great, the band might not lock and the gear might not work. These adjusters are like a screw and locknut sort of thing, but the tools required are a bit special, so probly best to leave to the pros. All the best when you get it serviced, might not be all bad, cause you found it once and then lost it again, may be some hope yet.
