Problem getting drum brakes off

Post by tommo » Sat Dec 08, 2007 11:23 am

hey, I'm having trouble getting the drum off one of my rear brakes to change the shoes. Got one side off with a little gentle persuasion with a hammer, no problems. Other side won't budge.
It's an '87 L series sedan and I have a haines workshop manual which shows an adjusting bolt on the back to release the shoes so you can pull the drum off, but mine don't seem to have that feature.
Just wondering if there's any tricks to get them off or if there's some way of releaseing the catch inside that I've overlooked.
Thanks in advance,
Tommo.

i use a bit of flat bar with 3 holes in it.2 for the wheel stud s to go thru and one in the middle which i put a bolt and nut on the underside of the bar.Wind away and it will come off. There probably is a puller made for the job.
