Have a look into the front springs/shocks steve from rising sun does. I have them on mine and they seem tops on the black top, haven't had a chance to really try them out.

The best time, i was lead to believe, is September/October. I could be wrong, but i am just going by the fact here in townsville it has been drizzling for like the last week or so. Which means more then likely it has been raining up north. Ring up the Bamaga Tourist Information/Jardine Ferry as they will be able to tell you, by looking outside.

The diff breathes because hot and cold oil, expand/contract. Thus when you go into a cold creek the oil contracts and sucks in cold water, obversely bad for the diff.

I googled rising sun and all I could find was a honda service/spare parts company, is that what you're talking about?

Sorry, PM steve_rising_sun he is the owner of the company and does the struts or the link above.

Ironically Rising Sun Honda is the local bike shop up here in rainy Townsville....

Yeah good Matt, I'm doing a couple of things to the ute that I've been meaning to do for ages.
Put some spotties on last weekend, put a tonneau cover on today and I'm almost finished putting a new seat in out of a '96 liberty.

Got my hand winch during the week that I scored off ebay for $60. :)

Also got a spare airbox from the wreckers last weekend to play around with making up a snorkel on. Found some fittings and pipe for a cold air intake off a liberty that I'll probably use for the snorkel.

Where do you get unifilters from? does repco or autobarn have stuff like that?

I was also wondering what the point of tarping the radiator is... is the idea to keep water out of the engine in general if you keep enough momentum up?

Idea is to keep the water out of the breathers/airbox/fans/engine. But if you are making a snorkel, it won't be a big deal at all. Make sure it air water tight to the bottom of the highest air suction point.
Unfilter are available at many specialist places, check them out at http://www.uniflow.com.au/ . By my quick search you can get them at Auto barn/Repco, etc. Don't be followed into buying a K&N as their filtering ability is about 15 microns and unfilter is 5 microns (off the top of my head). I.e the smaller micron the more particalurs it stops (read the better it filters but less it flows). The flow rate is greatly improved compared to a Paper filter.
Out of interest what type of winch? Pics?

Here's a couple of pictures of my winch. The brand name was come-a-long or something like that, not a big brand but it seems to be pretty solid and it works so for $60 i'm happy.
Bought a right angle hose fitting and some hose today but couldn't find the diff breather... I'm guessing it must be hiding under the diff hanger bracket, am i right? so that'll have to wait til next weekend. (ah yes, just had another look at the photo you took, should've looked closer at where it was. silly me)

Hi everyone. This is Toms brother Cam. It seems tom has run into some problems just near the tip. It seems he has snapped a bolt or two that attaches the rear torsion bar to the chassis. This in turn has bent the "wishbone" (he said you'd all know what that is). He's also lost a raising block.

He's currently in Bamaga and the only mechanic there is very busy and says he won't be able to look at it for a few days. It's going to cost alot of money to get the car shipped back to Brisbane. In the order of $2500.

What we're thinking of doing is trying to get all the parts that he would need together from the wreckers and sending it to him. I'm not a subaru junkie so I can't fully picture what he has broken. Can anyone shed any light on what sort of parts he's likely to have to replace? And how easy it would be for us to get them all together. Don't want to send them to him only to find he's missing one.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Cam,
You need to ask Tom for specifics.

We need to know what size lift blocks he is using so you can get the right length bolts.
Need to know if the torsion bar housing bolts broke or just fell out. If they are broken, how are the captive nuts? Useable?
There is no wishbone on the rear of a Brumby. Does he mean the rear diff hanger which is prone to bending? Or a trailing arm?

It sounds like he just needs a torsion bar housing block and 2 bolts. Whatever is bent can probably be straightened.

If he needs some advice I can probably talk to him. Does he have a contact phone number?

what happens is, the handle bends. Anyway if you use it, don't get over zealous, very steady straight pulls, and it should be ok. I ended up welding some reinforcing to the handle.
I recently got another one which is labeled 4tonnes, $39 looks a quite a bit stronger and is larger.
They are a PITA to release though, i advise don't go near it with fingers, use pliers.

Really its all you need for a subaru, I did contemplate getting one of those draw thru pullers, but the weight and storage requirement of those are just not justified.

Maybe if he can get some pics down, it might help everyone? Off memory there was an internet cafe in Bamaga, i can remember looking at and shacking my head.... No mobile coverage but an internet Cafe.... LOL! If it is the bolts i am thinking of they can be replaced relatively easily, try and find out what he needs and i could arrange to send it up to him? As i live in Townsville it would get to him sooner, etc.

Thanks for the replies guys. Didn't get to talk to him today. I think it is the diff hanger that he was saying is bent. The bolts that snapped have left the rest behind in the hole.

If I do talk to him again though I'll tell him what you've said and try and get some more info.

sounds nasty breaking the bolts off and leaving the ends in the hole

maybe if we can get replacement bolts and lift blocks up there, the mechanic/workshop could just remove the bolts for him?

diff hanger should be easy enough to straighten
and hopefully he stopped before making a mess of the torsion bar tube
