EJ22 FWD, fans come on, no speedo

Post by steptoe » Sun Jul 08, 2007 12:50 pm

an old guy rang me to wake me up and ask if i know what is wrong with his old liberty. Says as soon as ignition is switched on the cooling fans come on, and he has no speedo. I know cooling fans are a distress signal for a Bommodore ECU air bag sensor problem. Is it a similar distress call for a subie ecu ?

I know the fan comes on when the Temperature sensor is stuffed or unpluged. Not to be confused with the temperature guage sensor.

No speedo must be a coincidence... i can't see how they would be related.

It should be spitting an engine code if this is the case though... another option could be that one or more of the engine test mode connectors have been left connected accidently.

Possibly make sure his air con is turned off too... perhaps thats activating the fans.

speedo cable has broken, he has no speedo input to the ECU, and its in limp mode...

have seen this happen before.

other explanation isthat the test connectors are still plugged in like Dave said.

No matter what the problem... by putting the test mode connectors together it should spit the code of what is wrong.

thanks for the input, if he rings back i gues i'll have a look

do these have an ecu dash light to trigger to make you lok at ecu itself for red led flash ?

Vincent Vega just along the limp mode and speed sensor input. I wonder why it can adopt limp mode and other EJ conversions have run alright without speed sensor ??
