Oil in air filter

Post by theclick » Thu May 10, 2007 10:32 am

As stated in the thread title, there is a small amount of oil (a drop or two) collecting in my air filter (carb). As i have read elsewhere, it appears to be a sign of excessive blowby. I have not as yet run a compression test (due to lack of the equipment), but i ask this.

For a car that is worth probably 3 grand or a little above and is still running, is it worth chasing down and fixing? How much would it likely be to repair?

As i am not totally mechanically minded, any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,

Andy

what car are you driving?

I had this happen to my ea82 L series but on a much larger scale. Small amounts of oil may be caused by blow by but the problem with my was the hose behind the pcv valve was all clogged with carbon causing the engine not to breath properly. So pull that off and check it out, there is also a little T piece connector that is prone to blocking too so make sure that's clean as well.

ea82 l series. Similar to you.
it is not large amounts, usually a drop or two on the top of the air filter. I will try checking the pcv hose and related areas, though because it is a small amount, not particularly a build up, i get the feeling it may be blowb y. See how it goes

my old motor did this quite bad, to the extent that the air filter would be totally stuffed after doing doughies, or just reaming it for ages..didnt bother to fix it, just got an ej22 instead :D
