EA82 water pump

hi all,

the latest thing to go on the beast is my water pump, it still works, but the bearings are making an absolute racket!..how hard is it to change it? could i do it myself, or should i just pay someone to do it?

price a new one first before u go an old one... i don't think they are tooo heavily priced... If it's anything like an EJ22 all the timing covers need to come off and the timing belt.

Alex to replace the water pump it will cost about $70 bucks for the new pump (well, it does over here anyway).

To do it your self is pretty easy, no removal of the cam covers. Pull the radiator, remove your battery, take the fan belts off. The Alternator and A/C assembly comes off as one. There's a bolt on the inlet manifold, under the alt (bolts onto the head/cam housing), one under the A/C near the water pump (this one is slotted, so just loosen it off), and the last one is behind the fan belt tensioner/runner, this runner will need to be removed (i think this one has a spacer behind it, mine's been welded onto the frame, just be aware of that, it could make things difficult later).

Once these bolts are sorted, it should lift out relatively easily, place in the battery stand.

Now you have full access to the water pump. It might help to drain the water out of the enigne, there's a bolt (14mm from memory) on the head near the exhaust outlet, this is the drain bolt (it will only drain half the engine but you'll only need to drain the Dizzy side of the engine)

And that's about it, to put back together, reverse the order. You might want to replace the 'O' ring on the water pipe, or just use some high temp silicone (or both)...

But if you're going to wait til your conversion and the pump's not leaking, this would probabily be considered too much effort...

Sorry Alex, i was wrong, you have to pull the centre cam cover, which means the crank pulley needs to come off too. I'm sure you could get this cam cover off without taking the others off.
I checked this out the other night on the dead engine from ruby scoo...

Hope it doesn't bother you too much, should be an extra 15 minutes if that.
