Good stuff. I thought that post was well over the line.

Also, there have been a few similar posts lately, the language rule doesn't seem to apply to some.

It's good to see that people on here are supportive of the editing that is taking place in regardes to some of the language that has been arrising on the board, we are hesittant at times to do some things like this because some would concider it to be prudish and authrority gone too far with cencorship.

I agree with censorship as long as its explained.... This is a good example of how it should be handled i think. Simply deleting a post that contains language teachers people nothing. Good work guys.

Yes that particular word was pretty over the top.

I've just discovered it's quite amusing doing forum-wide searches (showing posts) for certain words. Even a few moderators and very senior members get caught using some of the more classic 4 letter expletives.
I'm guilty myself a couple of times...sorry bout that!
:)

True, I just did a couple of searches myself and found it rather funny.

There's a few members whose names keep popping up.... lol.

BANG!

I thought new members had to read forum rules as part of the signup process? The C word is a fair bit too far.

This is really annoying me, I am not a prude, or all that old but this has to be reigned in.

I am very proud of this forum, I reccommend it to all types of people who need help with their cars, old guys in their 60's, single mums trying to keep the old MY wagon running on a shoestring budget,. etc, etc.

How long do you reckon they will hang around after reading language like we have been seeing?

OH no, maybe I have grown up.

Stinky and Suba, you have my support for any censorship or editing you feel is right, punters seem to type while drunk or impared and edit later, its wrong.

Wow, don't know how we missed that dude's posts. Censored it now.

I don't read every post in every thread so stuff can very easily get past me, same for the others. Definately keep letting us know when you see stuff so we can stay on top of it.

I wonder if there is some kind of automatic filtering feature of the forum system itself that could be put in place.

I don't really know smeg-all about forum programming but I just did a quick google on the subject.
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=53640

Theres a language filter for an older version of Vbulletin than the one used here. It's user configurable kinda like a parental lock. Theres bound to be a solution for this version. Might be worth a look for you guys to cut down on the workload involved in editing posts etc.

Yeah I think it has something built in. I'll look into enabling it.

I have seen automatic censorship on other boards, even usmb I think, selected offensive words like your standard 4 letter variety plus most non subaru makes of cars were automagically changed to amusing alternatives.

We definitely need to get something sorted, this just isn't on.

Sorry fellas.. it was a combination of being rather angry with car/previous owner and habit on 'other' forums (ford forums, yer, dans a bogan :p). BUT it was my fault, I shouldn't have done it and I own up to my actions. Sorry once again ay

Note on the topic, yes it is possible to censor out the words. You do have to add each word and think of a different name for it (eg. f*** turns into apple, etc). It gets used on a couple of forums that I know of.

But yeah, I'll strive to not use bad language here again :)
