hmm yeh. ive since done a whole rad flush with some of that additive stuff, hose out and new coolant. thrashed it again on way home but couldnt get it above operating temp. damn it i hate the way L's seem to fix themselves sometimes...
i dont think ill take it in anywhere - they cant really do much more than i have.
meh ive got a few more testing days too :p

ok so i took it into Subaru and VW place in Balcatta. they checked out a few things and took rad out. said it was 80% blocked. so they flushed that out and cleaned it etc. problem resolved- $260 later. not bad i spose. labour worked out to be like $66/h which is good.

80% blocked!?!?! Did you not flush the cooling system yourself first?
Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).

RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).

Usually flushing alone isn't enough to shift the sludge from the thin water galleries. The end tanks need to be split off and all the galleries "rodded". This is the only real way to flush a radiator propperly.

When the temp gauge gets a high reading it is often a time to check to see you havent a bad earth to the sender or a bad supply to the gauge. With an L series its always a good idea to every second year before summer to the radiator rodded, even using Subaru recomended and supplied additive the sludge still builds up.
