Sat like a friggin rock. Could not beleive the stability and sureness at that speed.
Brake pedal sunk to the floor at about 160ish though. Once I finally pulled up the pads were smoking.
Thinking about a Territory run with some friends at the moment. I'd be going in the Falcon though, and I think they're limited to 180kmh.

Wonder Brumby.
EA81 (webbered) 145 kmh ish Balls out, flat chat.
EA81 JDM Twin carb 170kmh (on grass)
EJ22 170kmh (grass again)
Current set up with...'air conditioning'-
180 ish after losing the bonnet on the first run @ 145.
Oops.
Still had 1200 revs to go as well. (on grass)
160kmh on Gravel.
I have a half mile grass airstrip to play on and a private gravel road about 5kms long.....nasty ball bearing type gravel.
It makes things easier to adjust if not worrying about blue lights.
I need a longer airstrip....

seeing as though the 'comparison' has gone off L's, MY's and even Subarus....a passenger in a Honda NSX on a short beer run (windows down for best aural effect -from the engine) not top speed either but bloody quick between roundabouts seeing 120 k where I never seen more than 80,90 before....I WANT ONE...but the $300 a month is a bit over the budget - and that's just the insurance!!
Had my old EJ20 L-series wagon up ~7K rpm in 5th gear......speedo hit the wall a while back @ ~ 220(reads to 200, pin to stop needle is ~ 20 K`s past 200)....so at a guess ~235/240Kmph.
Surprisingly smooth at this speed, but that was only cause it was pinned thru the gears from stand still to 7K in 5th(would develope more vibrations if you re-accerated from say 80 -> Max.)
Damn 200sx drivers with shift lighted monster tacho`s.....it looked so gay I had to teach him what for

How fast?? I dont know. the needle stops at 220 kph. It showed no sign of wanting to slow up either, scares the pants off wrx drivers EVERY time they pick on it. Stupid bastards should've known and learnt the first time they got flogged, but like all sore losers, they just want another hiding by what looks to be grannys car. Hehehe:D

I must have missed this thread the first time around...
The L series, with photo graphic evidence in the thread about the trip to WA: 140 with two in the car and all our gear for the trip plus a radiator that didn't want to do much cooling - on a road that we thought was unlimited as we saw a sign that meant "unlimited speed limit" that we remember from our days in the NT.
This L had a fresh MPFI EA82 - standard everything. Oh, it did have a new fuel pump (thanks dave and tim
)
My old torana would wind up to 185km/h with a car full - it still had plenty in it but I'd run outta road. This was when it had an air leak at each inlet port as I found out later on, it went a lot harder with a new $7 manifold gasket
That was 8 weeks before a mate rolled it. Ultimately this is what steered me in the direction of subarus - and he's still my best mate...
Sorry that I managed (once again) to get a little off topic.
Cheers
Bennie

Willie wrote:When I owned my old RX (that Subi Wan Kenobi now owns) and we lived in the NT first time 'round, I had the opportunity to exploit the unrestricted speed zones a few times.
The best I got from the RX was:
185ish with 3 people and a full esky on board; and
160 with the trailer attached (trailer pretty much empty!)
As for other cars I've owned whilst up here:
MY06 Subaru Forester XT - 220;
'94 Mitsubishi Galant, 2.0l V6 - 215;
'91 Mits Pajero 3.0l V6 - 180
'97 Mits Pajero 3.5l V6 - 190 (the fuel gauge was moving faster than the speedo!)
'81 Honda Accord 1.6l - 180
Current EA82T L series - a huge 110!
Passenger in a GTR Skyline with an Autometer Speedo - 245
The bad news up here is that as of January, they are imposing speed restrictions on all our roads. The Highway will get 130 kph limit, which has upset alot of people up here. Alot of petitions have been raised in response to this issue. The oposition have said they will re-introduce un restricted limits if they are voted in, however I don't really believe them. One reason the govt has introduced the new limits was because of pressure from Canberra, who said if we wanted funding for roads, then one condition is to introduce speed limits.
So if you want to explore the limits of your cars legally, you had better come up this way before January 07.
I got the XR8 just before the new speed limits were introduced in Darwin, afetr I posted this. I saw around 240 in it and it got there quite qickly, also. Best bit was how stable and sure footed it was. Felt alot different to a the XT Foz at high speed!
Willie.

I've never had my outback much beyond the speed limit. Mostly because the missus is in the car with me on long trips, and she gets violent :P
The old MY touring wagon wouldn't go much more than 130, but it wasn't treated very well so I could have gotten more out of it if I had looked after it.
I've heard that the number of fatalities in the NT has gone up since the speed limit was introduced. People dying now from fatigue related crashes rather than speeding.

As for
The fatalities in the NT has gone up since the speed limit was introduced. People dying now from fatigue related crashes rather than speeding.
i do not think it is from fatigue it is more from drink driving and the under 21 in cars that thay can not control and i think 50% fatalities this year have come from people in the army in late model cars in and around Darwin and speed and drink driving is the mane factor .
fast cars and drink do not mix .

I didn't know people were such lead foots
I've had my valiant up to 85mph, and its the most frightening experience i've ever had in a motor vehicle. Might have something to do with been able to turn the steering wheel a quarter turn in either direction with no response.
In the L series i've been up to 160 to overtake, but never an all out speed test.
