L series clock help (RX turbo)

Clock in the middle of my dash has stopped working (86 RX turbo)

Can anyone tell me how to remove the clock? Hopefully it's not a "dash out" problem

Is this a common problem?

should be able to pop it out. just clips in on the sides from what i remember, and its just a unplug and re plug and ya done ;) make sure you do it slowly tho, sundamage will make it very brittle and easy to brake.

yep just get something soft and gently pry the clock out they just click back in eezy peezy..cheers

it will pop out. if you cannot pop it out drop the glovebox out and give it a push from behind.

yeh they just pop out....mine crapped itself too, one of the resistors gets extremely hot, and the colours have burnt off, so i dont know what resistance it is!

check ur fuse too. just a thought- sometimes its the simplest thing.

After I did the EJ conversion mine keeps loosing time... I'll have to check it out one of these days...

the clock has the dash coloured plastic surround that comes out with it, the wedge clips are at each side, not top or bottom. Why five wires to run a clock ? 2 are for the light up bits

been thinking of something different to shove in the hole - turbo timer ?

PeeJay thats because the car is faster now with a ej in it and the clock cant keep up.....lol

hey for all you guys out there with l's and stuff clock if you have a soldering iron they are esay fix, for some reason son of the solder on the capacitors go dry and the clock display will fade in and out, pull the cold out oull it apart and re solder the joints and it should work again, dit this to a few i had and they worked ever since....

:mad: I have resoldered the wires to it, replaced a resistor, and the thing is still playing up..........must be full of dry joints, last time i broke the clips too:mad:

I haven't removed mine yet, but if there are any electrolytic capacitors on the board, try replacing them too. They are notorious for drying out.

Clock fix

This resistor is in the supply (probably for a Zener diode) and gets hot.

Eventually leads to solder failure.

Resoldered and is now perfect....

I have a high res version of the pic but can't read the exact ohm value written on the pcb. It's definately 2 Watt, and has 820J stamped on the resistor (820 ohm???). You could try a 1K 2W or maybe someone has a clock laying around the garage that they read the value from?
