L-series parkers...not working!

hi all,

yeh, went for a drive the other night, came home to see my parkers, tailights and number plate illuminator out of action,

i have checked and swapped every single fuse and changed the globes, they still dont work. My brakelights and headlights all work fine.

I was having a fiddle with that switch on-top of the steering column and it seems abit stiffer than normal. If this switch is buggered can it affect the taillights? And maybe is there an in-line fuse somewhere?

Oh and i have done some extremely suss wiring, like wiring up some driving lights to the parker wire, so the driving lights come on when the parkers come on...

Help me please

If your have wired up your lights as u say u have then i dare say that u have over loaded the switch. Any additional lights should always be wired through a relay to avoid this problem.

I would definately say it's your switch.... should be a lot of these around Perth at the moment... I can't remember what an L series head light switch looks like but if its anything like most other cars and it's on the indicator arm then it will be HEAPS easier to change the whole arm mechanisim not just the switch itself. If that makes sence.

I have exactly the same problem right now. I have diagnosed mine to be that bastard of a switch on top of the steering column as well. Mine is intermittently faulty. If I tap that switch the lights flicker.

I believe that switch is your problem. I am going to bypass that switch - as useful as it isnt. Looks to me the switch is part of the whole indicator assembly.

yes Fang, it is a part of the whole assembly....im thinking about taking the thing out and yeh just bypassing it....if thats possible...

you should be able to bypass it and put it on a toggle switch...it probably better to put a switch in it but i wouldnt reckon a 2nd one would be to dear...

ahhh, i just fixed it...pulled the steering wheel off, pulled the arm assembly off, and found that the wiring to the switch ontop of the steering column got so hot the solders became brittle and just crumbled away, so i've re-soldered it and it all seems good again!

Yeah one thing the L series suffered from was inadequate sizing of Light wires and switch's with any extra load added to the system you should install relays.

Fixed mine too - the switch was stuffed. We disassembled the switch - cleaned it out - retensioned a spring and now it works like a dandy.
