ECS Warning light

Post by timmo » Mon Aug 14, 2006 11:39 am

Does anyone know what the ECS Warning light on the dashboard of an EA82T eqipped L series sedan refers to? (Its one of the red warning lights on the right hand side of the steering column). I'm sure its not major - just a faulty sensor or something?

i believe it means "check engine"
Check the ecu for error codes, then go from there

underneath your steering column, turn you keys to ignition(where ya dash lights come on, just b4 u start your car), then poke yuor head down and look thru the gap between steing column and plastic surrounding, ull see a red LED flashing at you.
the series of flashing will tell you where your problem is.
with the flashing, there will be different series of short and long emittions.
to start off you will have a longer emitted led, then after that, a couple of short ones.
for example, long led, short short.. this is 12. or long long short short short, 23.
if there are more than 1 error code, after the short series, there will be a small amount of time where the led is off, then will start again with another code.
if there is only one error code. it will keep on repeating itself..
make sense?
i prolli just confused u more.. hehe
have fun

Ok I think I understand now - I cant look at the car right now - but it isnt likely to be anything major eh? The engine seems to run ok. Would it be a bit reckless to not address the problem causing the error? just a faulty sensor? the engine is going in my wagon sometime. I guess i should identify the problem first... hmmmm

If its from an RX then no the O2 sensor wont make it run odd but if its running rough it would more likely be the Water temp sensor. If you have been through water or washed the engine bay then it could be water making the sensor read erradically in that case it will throw a fault code at you.

Yeah thanks, its turned out to be code of 35 - which means either the air flow meter or the EGR solonoid. could just be a dodgy connection too. The car does run ok though

Take the plug off and spray some WD or contact cleaner in the plug and silde it on and off a few times that should clear off any oxidization off the terminals and provide a good contact area.

I've checked out that ECU codes page that Fatz posted, but I dont know how to identify the connectors on the ECU that should be joined in order to clear the codes. Can anyone help? ie the colour of the plugs or something? I Dont actually know if i've fixed the problem, but would like to know by seeing if the codes will clear
