Hatchie fixed and needed testing

So we got the flywheel and clutch fixed in Hatchie, so we needed to test it out, so off to the beach we go :)

Ended up having a great fishing night and cooked them up on the bbq this morning.. YUMMY

Where have I been hiding,... I didnt know there was a 2nd hatch, let alone bright yellow with what looks like an WRX conversion

But I can see how one might think it is a hatch as the rear view of the car is blocked

Mmmm thats embarrassing. Now that I look harder I can just see the rear door handle.

my amazing photography, but good trip, its good fun when all these 4wds are parked up on the beach and these 2 little subis come screaming alone, they all jump up and cheer :D

Well you're kinda right.. there is a second hatch but it's also blue and its going anywhere in a hurry (it's pretty much a shell) but this yellow wagon (Honeycomb) is running WRX running gear. The guy that did the conversion should not be allowed to do any more :( it is something I show people how not to do a conversion.

Thanks Matt. Would have been good to have a ute there too but trying to get one of them these days.. guess we'll just have to wait till Jayson has his Brumby completed :)

hahaha.. yeah.. love how they see them coming then quickly tell their mates to look at them and you see them just about snap their necks trying to see us. I can't believe how many waves and thumbs-ups we get when we take the old girls out.

There was even a third hatch too but unfortunately only for a very short period. I remember Jay Vidler saw one driving along, followed it home, and convinced the old guy to sell it to him. I think it was fully registered and driving but quite rusty.
The tragedy happened when Jay called a wreck removal service to come and collect a stripped wrecked wagon he had. They came and did that....but also took it upon themselves to take his Hatch too - which was right up the driveway, under a car port, with locked doors.

When he found the car missing he called them, and found out that it had been taken to their yard, and crushed under several other cars. Unsavagable, but I think he managed to take the rear bumper off it to keep as a spare for Hatchie.

Brings a tear to my eye.

Yeah.. I've heard that story of Jay's hatch many years ago.. such a shame but really don't understand how they could remove it with going to that much trouble.

I'd love to have my hatch on the road but there's a few more projects in the line up before that happens.. plus you never know.. someone that owns one might buy it off me one day??

Don't worry Paul, I saw immediately there was one hatch, one wagon - so obvious. Sounds like you need to challenge TOONGA to a BMI show and tell !

If I was to go by the BMI scale I would be 7 foot tall, I'm pretty sure Paul would be around 6'10" :)

Yeah.. it is to those that have seen the yellow beast around but I can see how you could mistake it for a hatch.

Kinda but not to that extreme. IMO, the flywheel bolt holes where filled out too much and this allowed for too much 'play' in them and the first time I replaced the clutch, I had the flywheel machined. When I put it all back together, I didn't use any Loctite (which I never had to before on a Subaru) but this time the flywheel became loose and the flywheel bolts broke. So out with another EA82 flywheel and this time had it machined correctly and back together without issue.

Does hatchie still grind between reverse and first? I seem to remember it being pretty difficult to switch between the two.......or was that only in low range? cant remember.

And Paul, the other day I was messing around with my key switch. Turns out mine isnt far off of hatchie's. If I turn it too far it lose's connection and even when held correctly it has a noticeable resistance through the contacts. Old stuff wears out, who'd av thought :rolleyes:

I think this was due to the original clutch but since the new clutch ( and the second new clutch :( ) it has been working fine. Even fixed up the sloppy shifter and rubber strap that holds the gear shifter base in place, just need to add a top engine stay rod, as hatchie still jumps into 4WD when you power on hard.

I remember Hatchie!! (if it is the same Hatchie that I am thinking of!)

I have a DVD at home of the WA crew taking their Subies for a run - Hatchie makes quite a few appearances :)

I got the DVD out of the drawer to watch a couple of weeks ago but never got around to watching it - this thread has given me inspiration to do so now :)

I think the previous owners name was Dave? (with the username dave2000 or something on here)??

Yeah Tigger that's Hatchie. It's creator was Dave who's still on here at times - username SuBaRiNo, that username you posted is his email ;)

Dave also created the DVD which will become obvious when you watch it - still a very good mix of hatchie and some old rides you'll remember from "back in the day". I've got a copy of that DVD too :twisted:
