Fuel pressure regulator

Post by Outback bloke » Tue Jul 11, 2006 7:45 pm

Any one have any experience with rising rate fuel pressure regulators? How do you by pass the one on the standard fuel rails? I have a new turbo on the way along with a better fuel pump and I want to make sure I have the fuel there top end to run it.

Is the Sard brand any good?

WooHoo. About time you unplugged that engine. :D

Sard regs are a good thing by all accounts but the prices seem to vary wildly on them which makes me suspicious that some are made by sards chinese arm.

You have to specify that you want a rising rate too as the std reg is not.

What manifold are you using? I have just done a parallel setup on a TT manifold that is quite good.(It's VF34'd now) You need 2 LH side TT rails and 2 1/4 BSP right angle 8mm barb fitting plus two 8mm T pieces and a few metres of efi fuel hose. Parallel rails are really more important than an aftermarket reg. The std reg is very good, especially with an aftermarket ecu.

What Turbo are you fitting?

Al, I have got a TT manifold that I have swapped and changed the rails so I could fit the 4 hole 440cc yellow tops. I suppose I would have enough rails and crap here to do the parrallel rail thing.

Need to find out exactly what it is I am doing though. Might have to ahve a look at Scotts car one day.

I have got a VF30 on the way. From what I have read about them it should be pretty good on there. Still looking for a VF23 or a 22 as well. I have seen a few at the good prices recently, just need to save a few dollars to get them.

Here's how I have done it this time. There are plenty of ways to do parrallel rails but basically you just delete the regulator and put a T piece in both the inlet and return lines. The pics aren't brilliant.

You can see the two t pieces here.

And here you can see one rail and the std reg adapted into an alloy block. You would not need this if you are using a Sard reg.

I used 1/4 BSP brass fittings and tapped one end of the rail(the other end of these LH TT rails has a std 8mm barb).

VF30 will be good on the 2.5 although still considered undersized on a street car. I wouldn't bother with any of the others listed, there would be no real gain changing to them apart from the P20 Exhaust housing(more top end).
