Damo's new rallycar project

Post by damo666 » Wed May 31, 2006 8:52 pm

My new Leone. Its FWD, auto, and has a ding in almost every panel.... 8O Thank god it was only $50!! Its actually not too bad, no rust, and came with the RX alloys (click thumbnails for bigger pics).

I'm starting the long slow process of building another rally car - at least this one is the same colour as my old one!

if you dont EJ it your mad

Mine is standard, bar exhaust (3inch GrpA front pipe), pod filter, RSRA computer and it is as good as you can reasonably get a EA82T but much more reliable, oh and fun :D

ToyRX,

As much as I'd love to go an EJ, CAMS rules mean that I have to stick with the homolgated block.....the EA82T. (I think I need to move to NZ, you guys have it too good!).

Thanks Thomas - are you sure I cant have the old one back? ;)

The RSRA computer was from the factory homologated series 1 RSRA Legacy/Liberty, I have no idea if you guys got this model or not. I dont know all the details on it but it runs different fuel and timing maps etc definitly aimed at getting more out of the engine.

Just a quick update -

Car now stripped back to the shell. I spent a day or so chipping the tar based sound deadner crap off the floor, which ended up coming to around 19kg in total (including the rubber sheet on the firewall).

Image

Seam welding of the front end has begun, I decided to give it a rest tonight when I scared a MASSIVE huntsman spider out of its hidey hole somewhere inside the lower chassis rail (I'm a girl, hate spiders). I raised the welding helmet to find a slightly charred, very pissed-off spider advancing over my gloves and up my arm......might need to get my wife to clean these pants!

Image

Just need to finish off the rest of the seamwelding & plating, and it can go off for the rollcage installation.

Well that welding does not take you to long does it.
ROLF at the spider, the poor little bugger was probably just trying to get away from the hot metal.

If you want a spare bootlid for free, let me know & I'll put it aside. Its the only panel on my donor car that is straight, rust free & bog free. (The roof was until someone jumped on it)
Every thing else is being scrapped.
