Round headlights
Hey,
Just curious as to how rare the circular headlight MY Wagons are - more specifically what are the chances of getting hold of a the lights and surrounds?
Also Crome rear and front bumpers? are there any kicking around?
I'm just blindly assuming they will bolt straight onto an 1983 model.. Is this the case?

Hey Alex,
I ask because I spotted this fellow this morning.

I just figured being 1980 model and looking the same as my car it may fit on...

Haha, I was contemplating buying the aforementioned car swapping the good bits and putting it up for sale at the Uni.
Sounds like a fun but challenging project though. Love the look of the round headlights

Are you sure about this ? I know the single/dual fronts are different but I wasn't aware if the 1980 (round) / 1981 (rectangular with >===< grille) / 1982 (rectangular with straight grille / 1983+ (rectangular with mesh-style grille) varied - I know the 1982/83's are definitely interchangable as I have an 82 grille (and front bar) on my 89 Brumby (needed to move one of the clip-in plastic inserts for the grille).
I have a 1981 grille in the garage that I believe also will swap in, but have never looked at a 1980 enough to know for sure if it will/won't interchange.

GunFactory, as you have a Touring Wagon with the dual headlights the radiator/support panel is different so the round headlights will not be a direct fit. If you had the standard single square lights you could install the round versions.
It is funny, back in the early 1980s the round headlights looked so old fashioned but now they are kind of coveted! I always liked how the round lights linked back to the '77 - '79 models...

I've seen 1 round headlight model ever, in a wrecking yard. In fact I took it's radio antenna
Have to disagree on the look though, the round bowls really don't suit the front or the rest of the car for that matter. I'll keep my singular rectangles thanks

Will it ever end!?

Good discussion, thanks for clearing that up.
I think at the end of the day i'm skirting around the fact that I just need my damn bonnet painted. Round headlights and chrome bumpers ain't going to change that!
I like my quads at the moment with two accompanying rectangular driving lights very rectangular at the front!

Although,....

Asking $60 for headlight surrounds and grill.
Tempted to go photograph what exactly is behind the single headlight brumby lights and grill and compare with my Quad setup. I need to go to the wreckers soon anyhow.

Doug, to change your car over to the round headlight setup, you'll need to cut the 'Radiator Support Panel' off and MY model that has either round or single square headlights. There is lots more single square headlight models out there as they were the 'Sportswagons' from 1979 to 1984. There is also the Brumbys from 1982 to 1990 (later than that the Brumby all had twin headlights). The panel is completely different to yours and will require removing your old one and welding the other one on. My suggestion would be to try and buy a complete 'Nosecut' from the wreckers, as this will give you all the required parts, but this is going to be hard as the round headlights were only available from 1979 to 1980. You could try looking on USMB, as they had a lot more sales over there.

I like these round ones better, I found this in n/e Thailand a few weeks ago, the only other Subi that lives there is a pig nose WRX.

And for those that may want to see it's bum.

I just remembered (well Jayson just reminded me) I have a complete 1980 wagon lying around in a paddock.. you could have ALL the parts off that you need to convert to round.. for really cheap

D_gen - nice find of one of those "fugly's" out there, I thought things that old would have rusted beyond use by now with all the rain they get in the wet season!
GF - those lights won't fit, at least not without some pretty big mods/lots of working things out!
Cheers
