How?

I only know 2 people on here that are honest enough to say it out loud but I can only answer for myself. I say they are no good because I believe they would produce less light than a Standard L. If you say upgrading the globes (on the quad setup) will help.. then consider the same on the L and IMO you'll still end up better lights on the L because the L has a larger lense reflector.

Downgrade imho. Makes the car look 10 years older than it really is. :-)

Mitchhsj wrote:Hi all I want to design and make a custom front bar replacing the stock one on my l series ( bar work). Similar to like a potrol comp truck but more quiet / suttle and les fagy. Want it to shorten up the noise by around 6 inches and continue into a custom bash plate to keep the sand out. It will have a 4 inch lift to match and I have already made a custom rear bumper and spare tire gate to match. Wondering If anyone has seen anything similar or links? Photos for some ideas.
Thanks guys :D
What do you mean 'shorten the noise' (thinking you mean nose) but where are you meaning 6 inches?? The bumper only protrudes about 3 inches and increasing height will give you the better approach angle.

IMO.. I'd be going with a design similar to this

That's usually how the best DIY items are made!

4 globes instead of two; glass lenses as opposed to metal/plastic. Two combination globes in use for low beam (outer units), Two combination globes and two single dedicated globes for high beam. Beef up the wattage on the dedicated high beam will give good light with the high beam use and doing the same on the low beam combo globe will make low beam decent. I already find the brumby's low beam to be equal to the L series without doing anything to it.

The other good thing about these lenses is that you don't have to worry about warping/melting plastic casings with higher wattage globes. My thoughts on it anyway - plus it's totally 80's which the L series is as well

spot lights and the regular L headlights. Light maximised, as well as cosmetics.

L-series lenses are glass too. Never had any problems with beafy globes melting the plastic casing either.

Hi, I'm new on the forum. I'm trying to install an aluminum bull bar on my l-series much as you have done, and can't figure out how to get access to put the nuts on the bolts on the drivers side. Any advice?

Cheers,

Morgan

What sort of bar is it? There should be mounts for it the same on both sides...

If you're fitting it in place of the original bumper then obviously the bumper has to come off, but if it's just a standard pipes bar there should be two readily available brackets in vision under there.

Any photos? Maybe something's gone astray...

G'day Morgan and welcome to the forum.

After market bullbars etc usually have the nut welded to the bar so you only have to concentrate on the lining up of the captive nut with the hole on the front of the L series so that the bolt can be put in.

But if your bullbar doesn't have that you'll need to remove the black inner guard liner plastic piece, you don't have to take it all the way out. Once you've got access to the front of the vehicle you'll see where the bullbar tabs are and where to put the nuts once you've got the bolts in ;)

I don't have any pics to share I'm sorry!

Cheers
