Tweety I thought you were going to say you had fixed the problem Sam has by not having any doors.

Oh well - worse things can happen.

As you are now buds with Rising Sun Steve, see if he has a door hidden around the place - he helps out those (even more) once you spend decent coin - i.e. your twin carb motor build.

Haha nice read here when I get back this evening

Thanks for the kind and consoling words everyone, has helped me to get over it. I've realized I'll never find out who did it, it's an absolute bummer and pain in the neck but Tweety is right, there can be a quota for these things so hopefully I'm ok for the next 10 years :) Plus she's not going to be parked on the street over night again.

I have found a silver door, picking it up tomorrow afternoon so I can have the car back for Monday morning hopefully. Sven I thought of calling Steve but I left him to last on the list since he's not really a parts place, although he's told me many people and companies go to him for parts. Plus he's already organized a parts car and gearbox for me ;) Going to city dismanlters (literally across the road from rising sun) tomorrow before they close.

Cheers all, will report back on door fitment and window adjusting, going to be a joy alright :???:

That sucks balls mate, the worst part is the heart felt pain that your pride and joy has been damaged by some uncaring bastard that doesn't give a shit.

Glad to see you're organising new parts already, I hope that all goes well for you. And that service manual you mention, it sounds to me that it could be a factory workshop manual, very valuable to subi nuts - get to know it well ;)

Cheers

Honour has gone missing now a days.

Without sounding like a hero or anything I lived in Euroa a few eyars back. I was a newby in town. A young guy with the same initial and surname had a birthday and I received a card in error.

It was from his grandma and I opened it and there was a $50 note and a card.

It was palced in my l/box in error. I wrote to "Toby" and placed it all in his letterbox.

Two days later his visited and this fine young 13 year old thanaked me for so long I nearby needed a incontinent pad.

Well anyway Toby ended up a fine little mate and when we see each other down town its always good. there are positives in doing the right thing. But the scum dont bother and with them we just have to move on and accept the consequences of sharing this planet with them.

what goes around comes around...and we should resist any temptation of becoming one of them.

off soapbox!

Silverbullet wrote:There I was going out to my car to go to work this morning like I do every morning. It was dark so I didn't notice straight away. I saw the light on the dash to say the drivers door was open and I was worried I'd left it open and the battery would be flat. Tried to unlock the door but it was jammed. Tried to close the door/open the door and it wouldn't. I look down to see as shown in the pictures below:

Now I can't go to work as the door doesn't close which means I'm losing money. I need a new door which will cost me. That will be most of my weekend shot to pieces as I search for and install a new door. And the B@$!@%&'s didn't even leave any trace of their presence, no note, nothing in the letterbox not even a tag scrawled in spray paint to say sorry.

As you can see the door is practically folded in half so it wasn't a gentle nudge, they slammed into it. Even more annoying is there will be no damage to their car, and they probably saw my old bomb and thought "Who cares it's an old piece of crap". Amazingly from the inside you can't tell there's any damage apart from the door not closing.

I know it's not likely I will find who did this, it was probably someone who took a wrong turn in the middle of the night and not realizing it's a court decided to do a 3 point turn in the ONLY part of the street with a car parked across the road. I will ask the neighbors over the road though if they heard anything, the car is smack bang directly across the road from their steep driveway but I'm definitely not insinuating anything. I will keep an eye out as well for any cars with a tow bar visiting today, hopefully I find one with some silver paint smeared on it.

Needless to say I am totally pissed off. Nothing like this has ever happened to us.
their will always be some low life that thinks that by damaging other peoples property and being able to get away with it seems ok and it happens as usual when you need to be going to work or out with friends and family.

after sort of looking at the photo's of the door and being a bush mechanic if this had happened to me i would have striped the door down and with a big chunk of wood bashed the dint back out on the grass as a temporary fix till i could replace it.

i hit a roo one night doing 80 mph it did the radiator bonnet right guard head light and inner right guard stripped it down and pulled the front out on a big gum tree fixed the radiator with body filler and bolted it all back together drove it like that for about a month until i got all the part to fix her properly was one of the EH holdens i use to own

I may have been able to bodge something together if I'd had the time, but work is 45 minutes away and I need to leave by 6:15, I saw this at 6:10 :( Also the door was considerably shorter because it had been folded in half nearly so bashing the dent out wouldn't be enough, the lock still probably wouldn't reach the latch in the car.

Anyway I picked up the door today and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with City Dismantlers; they were very busy and under staffed but they dealt with everyone quickly, efficiently and politely and everyone got what they wanted despite the few guys behind the desk being constantly interrupted by the phone. They also have heaps and I mean HEAPS of parts, even for the old Subies. They had quite a few MY doors on the rack and many L series doors. Plenty of intakes, engines and even a bull bar or two. They would have much more but that's what I saw in the few minutes I was there.

The door is from a Jap import 83' leone so a few things are wrong, biggest of which is there are no bolt holes for the wing mirror and since the passenger side is already missing that leaves me with none: a no go. There is also a bit of a scrape down the side at the bottom but not too bad and some tiny car park dints but that's all that was available and I need the car back ASAP.

Biggest problem comes with fitment, and it is absolute hell trying to line up the bolts on the hinges. Got 4 out of 6 in but two on the bottom hinge just wont thread into the captive nuts in the door. Most of the time the holes are misaligned so the bolt goes in at an angle and gets crossed, Even when the holes are aligned they just don't thread in. Yes I did thread all the bolts in before hand to make sure they fit. Also leaving 4 bolts loose to position the door doesn't make any difference at all, they just get crossed every time if they go in at all. Ended up taking the fender off for better access but it's still very difficult.
All this in the cramped space around the front of the door makes for a very frustrating experience. Door is in at the moment but not very well with only 4 bolts in, its sealed around glass and I may just have to enter/exit through passenger door for a bit until I can fix this. Thinking I have to take the door off and run a tap through the holes, I may have damaged them slightly with all the times bolts didn't thread in properly.

Then there's still the front guard, over-rider, cowl and all that to put back together, then figure out what I'm going to do about the wing mirror and put my lock back in along with my old latch because it was a grey interior door. This isn't fun when you're working to a deadline :(

keep your old door handle external, as they break. I expected to hear you had problems unlocking, opening and removing buggered door, you are lucky - buy a looto ticket !

Hey have you tried new bolts? Often I have found new bolts simply go straight in, usually after thousands of (frustrating!) attempts with the OK looking originals... Besides, Subaru bolts are not the best quality...

I know it is now too late but would any Brumby door have fitted or are they different ?
Just wondering as I have to replace my front LH guard and was going to get one off a Brumby with quad headlights (this is what I have) so was wondering about doors.
