GT-B with Megasquirt

Post by H-top » Tue May 15, 2012 8:44 pm

G'day all,

Its been a while since if posted and ive missed you all.

I'm back with a new project, not my car, but one of my long
time mates.

It's a 1998 GenII GT-B.
Its got all the fruit and he has big plans for it.
Luckily, i get to be the one to point and throw the money!!

so far he has

26mm whiteline adjustable front and rear swaybars
pedders lowered shocks and springs
cooling pro larger top mount
GFB plumb back BOV
3 inch cat back
2 external coolers for oil and trans
90mm intake replacing the snorkus retaining the airbox
54mm alloy rad

and loads of other goodies yet to be bolted on.

So the fork in the road we are at is the TT or T and it is definately going T.
So for that he needs a new ECU before we get fully hectic.

That brings us to MEGASQUIRT! Now kids, MS has been a dirty word with Voodoo car circles since it inception. With the research I've put into it ive found it has many advantages besides being open source and modular.
The biggest reguirement for the ecu of choice was not cost, but flexibility.
We wanted something that could datalog loads of imputs like a boss and run many external functions, one of which being water/meth injection, MS ticked all our boxes.

So within the next few weeks, we should have all our kit together to setup up a plug and play on the factor loom for MAP sensed EJ20H so it can run on the twins until we set up the single and can tune it to that straight after, also i just cant wait to get rid of the AFM and say goodbye to possible air leads from plastic and rubber over 10 years old!

let the flood of critics approach :)

cheers,
S

its that and far more. it means that you can modify the very firmware the ecu operates off, u can change all the paramaters that the ecu reads, processess and sends information.

so if u have an ignition setup that a different aftermarket ecu cannot read, u can nut it out with a calculator to sequence properly and code it to be able to read it and then give that information to other people to do exactly the same thing!

i've heard a little about them, that they're abit cheaper then say an apexi..? and obviously not having to have it professionally tuned is another win... but i've also heard of a few blow-ups due to them but i suppose that comes hand-in-hand with the ability to alter tuning parameters if you dont know exactly what your doing.. a very interesting prospect though
