Well said Rhys.

I reckon you would get a big improvement with higher profile tyres but as you want to keep it legal plus keep the 4 pots thats a compromise you need to make. As you say its primarily a road car & i can attest to its handling & driveability on road.

Watching you still get wheel spin, a rear locker would be a huge bonus, but till that happens your setup will be enough to overcome most climbs. & make us very jealous lol

Having tried a few things you did easily yet i either had a lot of trouble or simply couldnt make it, might i suggest keep the centre locker off for more of a challenge?!

Scott, exc video, i think you captured the build up to the climb & the climb itself really well & i love the way you edited it. BTW...i actually like the cockatoos haha

Thanks Matt! I liked that you asked questions about how to edit the video in final cut, I hadn't thought much of others not knowing how to do it!

And the Cockatoos make it more interesting while letting you know it's in the land of Oz - if you know that is a cockatoo!

Personnaly I don't understand what you have done to your car, maybe if I could drive it around for a week of two I might understand it from your point of view. Just send me a pm when I can come and pick the car up.

Just kidding...:D

Again, well done looks like it has come together perfectly.

You do do good vids bennie, but I still wish I was there to see it in action.

No you're not!!

And thanks for the comment on the video - you'll see it in action soon enough, I know that's still too long but it's worth the wait!

Cheers

Was there any issue with fitment or was it a case of remove 2 pots, slide off disc... slide on larger disc, install 4 pots?

Could you have used the 4 pots with the 277mm calipers?

Just curious

4 pots use the 294mm rotor which slides on in place of the 277mm rotor, and the 4 pots bolt straight on in place of 2 pots. Bleeding the brakes on my own was what took the longest! All up a really quick and easy upgrade and in my opinion definitely worth it.

So i was at my mums in Eltham, NE suburbs of Melbourne on Christmas day. About about 3pm it started pissing down, within two hours we had two decent hail storms with golf ball sized hail. All 7 cars at the house got a decent beating on all panels, including my Liberty. This is the results for my car:

Not the worst hail storm but every panel except the bumpers and the driver side front and rear door are hail affected. Luckily no smashed windscreen so its driveable and i can continue with holiday festivities.

I suspect the car will be a write off. In fact the lady i spoke to at Shannons said the company may classify the storm as a catastrophe, meaning all damaged cars will be written off and they waive the excess (thats what i think she said anyway). Shannons have a buy back policy which is good, so i don't think i'll lose my goodies. My main concern is my precious gearbox (my preccciioussss!).

Looking like i have a few options:
1. write it off and wave goodbye (potentially lose gearbox). I'd lift the MY wagon i have, 14's with 27" Kumho mudders, weld the rear and love it. That basically shits on my currect drivetrain at the fraction of the cost. Fix the turbo L series i have stashed in the yard as a daily. Cool option in some ways.
2. Write it off and take the option to buy it back, get it fixed and keep it. This may prove uneconomic.
3. Write if off, buy it back, take my gearbox - put back in the STI box, lower it and sell it as a hail affected vehicle. I'd probably change my precious to 3.9 and stick it in MY as described in option 1.

To keep and drive the car it will have to be repaired of all storm damage. Shannons won't reinsure it without doing so, and shannons are the only ones who will cover this car. Kinda makes buying it back and driving it unrepaired and pocketing some extra cash impossible. Shame becaise i would love to do that.

There's some pretty big dents there. I reckon you're pretty lucky you didnt lose the windscreen or rear window...saved the interior from getting wrecked.

From the news Eltham seemed to cop the worst of it...

Hope you have good luck with your claim & a speedy payout with a low buyback price ;)

i feel for you man, finally getting it where you want it after a while and this happening really sucks...we had a massive hail storm over here same sort of thing with two of my mates getting cars out of it one had a liberty completely repaired for a carton of piss obviously off a family friend and another had a luxury 05 liberty completely repaired for 1200..using some dent pulling machine??.. and if you decide to write it off and not get her back i may just be flying over to attend the auctions in your area in the coming months ;)

That sucks Venom. It doesn't actually look that bad. Couldn't you keep the car an live with the damage or repair it yourself with a few dollys and mallets??

Wholly sh*t rhys, that sucks! Such an absolute shame!

It looks like it's only a little bit more dented than mine when I bought it at auction (it was a hail storm write off).

As it was written off I had to get VIV and RWC inspections to get it back on the road, and Just Car Insurance will insure hail damage vehicles. They won't do full comp, but they will do 3rd party fire and theft.

I say enquire with Just Car first as they do insure modded cars and also hail damage... then make your decision.

Personally I would stick with the liberty as it's the weapon you've wanted and the envy of many!

worse comes to worse man could you not strip as much of the goodies out of her as possible before they come collect it?

Mate, that' sucks balls. I think I'll be putting up a sturdy carport with a double sheeted roof!

I hope it doesn't come down to being a write off. You could look into a dent removal service that doesn't damage the paint, I don't know how it's done, but because the paint isn't damaged it might be possible to sort it out this way.

Talk to the insurance company, see what they say first, I'll be eager to hear! I bet their phones will be ringing hot tomorrow!

Cheers

Just replace the panels and parts that can be replaced and forget about the rest. Not a cheap thing to do out of your own pocket, but If it goes to insurance it will be written off and you won't get back the money you have put into it.

Worst of all someone will outbid you when it comes up at auction.

Slide hammers, you weld a nail to the dent and use that for the slide hammer to grab onto.
Suction cups suck.
Or there is bog.
My 2c, that really does suck!

Recieved a phone call today and i was told to go to a repairer and get a quote, so i'm assuming there's a chance it may get fixed and not written off. I was perhaps a bit hasty and picked up a perfect set of passenger doors and rear tailgate from pick a part, suppose it will be easier for the panel beater to use them though.

Hope all goes well mate, keep us updated. Did the panels cost you much?

It would be a real shame to loose one of the greatest H6 offroad subies in the world :D

That's great news

Even if the panel beater doesn't use the panels it can't hurt to have some spares. They may use that technique that leaves the paint undamaged. From the looks there were a lot of scratches from the hail though.

Sounds very promising...good luck!
