Brumby Brake problem !

Post by Brumby91 » Wed Nov 16, 2011 7:12 am

Hi guys, I'm after bit of knowledge from someone.

On two occasions having just started my car in the morning, reversing out the driveway , apply the brake pedal, and it goes Rock Hard. The brakes won't pull up, so i take my foot off and reapply, and they're back on!

Any ideas as to what's causing this ?

Either your master cylinder could be stuffed or has a blockage in it. If it isn't the master cylinder then the brake proportioner could be stuffed.

Check the vacuum line to your booster as well. take the end off that goes into the booster if there is no vacuum hiss you have a vacuum leak in the line or a stuffed booster, or the one way valve is broken.

Ok... Just pulled the line that goes into booster.. And its sucking more than a two dollar hooker !

I can also tell that the rear drums ( I want rear discs by the way ha ha ) are working , for each press of the pedal I can hear the drums creaking into place!

The hard pedal is only happening now and again, so I guess Toonga it might be the proportioning valve!

Any chance it may also be an air lock in the system ?

I'd be putting my money on either:

A) the rear drums need to have their shoes adjusted out closer to the drum surface or they need replacing or

B) you have a faulty brake booster.

Probably the booster if it's going rock hard...

Before you start your car next, pump the brake pedal a couple of times until it goes hard, then whilst holding down the pedal, start the car. If the pedal sinks the booster is ok, if not you have an issue!
