Brumby brakes conundrum - rear discs

Post by phantomD » Mon Oct 17, 2011 6:16 pm

Hi all,

I bought some L series turbo rear disc brakes (complete) from a wrecker in SA as a bolt-on for my Brumby. Having fitted them to the car, the setup has been discovered to be missing the steel clips that hold the pads into the calipers.

End result is that they are on the car, and while I am assured that it is safe to drive, there is a constant super-loud rattling from the rear and a big clunk when you jump on the brakes. I rang the wreckers on Friday and they were going to get back to me on Saturday, to no avail. I'm told that if I'm desperate I might be able to get pads and clips ex Japan at great cost, but I'd rather find the part if I can.

Is this going to be a huge headache? Suggestions please? Ring around?

Thanks in advance!

You need those clips not only do they stop the pads from rattling around they hold them in the caliper. the worst case scenario is that when they wear down they can pop out of the caliper leaving you without brakes. you might try fabricating something to hold them in place. I can take a photo of mine if you want.

Aren't the rear discs the same as some front ones? Ie early NY 1600 or something?

Any ideas on getting the clips? I'm fairly convinced I'm going to have to order genuine pads with clips from Subaru (apparently they can come with clips) at great expense because I doubt a wrecker will bust a set of brakes by removing those clips for me!!

The earliest I could have a photo of the clips is this Sunday as Im working until Saturday.

I do have this picture of one of a set of pads I got from England for around 20 dollars Au delivered. It is nicely blurred sorry but you can see the clip pressed to the pad

Here are the picture you requested and I've managed to put new pads into Jetcar as well:)

Wouldn't new pads come with the clips? They are pretty cheap on ebay.
