fitting a baby seat in gen3 outback

hey guys,

just after abit of feedback (not sure how many of you will know) about fitting a baby seat into my gen3 outback.

Just seeing what other people have fitted before (Gannon), i dont really want to be stuck having to put the drivers seat forward (i already have to have it set all the way back for me to drive comfortably)

Ive read that 'mounting a baby seat in the middle of a subaru is a big no-no'...why?

im yet to check out the mounting points on my car, but im guessing it would be fairly strait forward.

I also realise the model of seat i choose will effect how its mounted.

I have my sons seat (3 year old- so now upright) on the rear left of my impreza. It is a bit of a pain because even now the front passenger seat can't go all the way back, and the restraint straps go right to the rear hatch so it cuts down boot space.

The one non standard thing I did was put a folded in half beach towel under the seat. I then rolled/ folded the towel up at the front of the back seat to keep the baby seat positioned more upright.

For convenience sake I have it next to the door- and not in the middle position. While it might be ok for a baby, it is bloody hard to manouver a toddler into the middle position!

We have ours (Safe N Sound Convertible) on the left side behind the front passenger seat. On the left side is safest and most practical when parallel parked because you are on the foot path side (and away from moving traffic)

We have an old towel folded up under the baby seat to help keep it level (and prevent creases on the leather seats). Then you pull the seatbelt out all the way and feed it through the hole in the child seat and click it in. As it retracts it will click, telling you it is in child seat mode and cannot loosen without first being taken back to the fully recoiled position.

Have a read of your Subaru owners manual, including the Australian supplement.

We have 3 kids from 9 months to 6 years old, so our Gen3 Outback is chock-a-block full of baby/booster seats.

When the convertable seats/capsule are rear facing they do make it quite difficult for anyone taller than about 5'8" to sit in the front.

We have just turned around our last rear facing seat which was on the passenger side.

Once they're forward facing the only issue is having you seat kicked.

To get 3 seats to fit you have to choose very carefully and even then it's a bit of a squeeze, 2 seats fit without any dramas.

ive read its quite bulky, but that shouldnt be an issue, i dont plan on having any more baby seats in my car for afew years at least.

That one is exactly the same as ours. Good padding for a newborn that is removable as they grow.

okay thanks mate, that seems to be the goer.

is there still a decent amount of room in the front passenger area with this seat rearward facing?
