Hello from "across-the-pond." :) (Canadians say that, do Aussies? :p)
Have you been to Australia?

I appreciate your post. Halifax UK is a bit of a far journey, else I'd swing by.
Hi - No, not yet had the pleasure to travel down under - but I think I'll need at least a month to get round and see all the folks I know in Oz ! When I manage to arrange my visit !

Agree its a bit of a hop to get here - but I'd do it for ya if you managed it !
Welding was once how I earned my crust (not now though but still got all my kit and do the odd bit still now and again - some to do this weekend even )
Jules' comment of the rates charged in Oz are an eye opener, $100 per hour !!
Holy 5h!t batman - max cost here £30 per hour (AUD $ 45) usually £20 per hour. Probably due to fact that tiggy's here are 10 a penny !

I wonder if you could work out a trip that's cheap-as-chips, round Oz,
if you know enough people on AUSubaru.
Kinda like a relay race, one member could take you to another. :D
(Rather than renting your own car? Unless you want to of course. :D)

Good TIG welders are probably used to $30-75/hr around these parts. Likely $50+ at mine sites.
So their rates reflect how much they need to charge above that for the business to turn a profit.
