Camira injection onto EA81

Post by 85wrx » Mon May 15, 2006 10:42 am

Has anyone completed this conversion?
How hard was it to convert? What model camira is the best to use?
Is it just as simple as get all the sensors plug in and play?
Interested to hear from anyone that is running this setup?
Any information on this would be much appreciated.

Regards Darryl

a good starting point would be to check the abandoned Camira s around the place. like fuel pump , where is it ? in tank or outside, and size of throttle body compared to EA81

do throttle body injectors us fuel presure reg ? they must ?

I know some1 in here has at least talked about doing this

Memcal I think is the computer and can be remapped to suit with the right gear ?

you can get efi rated fuel hose in rubber, if that helps

The main appeal of the camira EFI is that being from a 1.8L or 2L motor it is close enough to happily run the EA81/82 with out the need for reprogramming, and with some models having throttle body injection all you need to do is make and adaptor to mount the throttle body in place of the carby.

This is a handy link I found while looking into it previously:

I think the random comment posted elsewhere has a lot to be considered.
Reasons are that to get this Delco system to run, you need to set up exactly as the donor car, which is different to Subie EFI. It has Hall effect ignition pickup and wiring up with all emission control effects to be taken care of, as it may run like a pig. Memcal or Kalmaker are programs a guru needs to interigate the ECU to reprogram etc.

I dont think this would be easy to do. I remember seeing a similar article in Zoom magazine a while back, suggesting it to be a poor mans tunable ECU.

I think I would state the obvious, stay with the simple but effective Weber for such small power gain.

Have adapted the tbi system of an n13 pulsar, manifold was modified to take the throttle body, and the distributor was spliced with an ea dissy, it worked out quite well eventually, however the amount of time and some $$$ spent for the minimal gains... well i wouldn't do it again.

I think energy would be better spent fitting an ej engine, but if you really want to stick with the ea theme, then MPFI on a twin port would be interesting, i wouldn't even consider running a wet manifold (tbi) if you want any kind of gain.

JD camira's at any rate have an external bosch pump, (best part of the car) as my ea82t was feeding through one for some time before i signed the engine off.

I am looking into this as a more relible means of fuel delivery than the carbie. Does anyone have pictures or more information on the particulars to the successful completion. I relise that all the sensors and EFI parts will be transfered, is there any alterations to the computter for fuel and ignition settings for this to to have combination of max power and economy.
The cost of this project is the main question as to whether I will go ahead with it. I have already found that the entire efi setup off a camira will cost $150. If there is a lot other costs involved in the tuning I may be better off to get an EJ18 frontcut for $1400.

Reliability and cost are the factors at the end of the day.

Interesting to that being your bottom line. I believe in the K.I.S.S principle.
That being a Weber and Electronic dizzy will get you over the line without complicating something as simple as a EA81 with less to go wrong.
I get power and economy with that setup.

Faultfinding an EFI system (in the other car) is proving to be one big headache for me at the moment.
