Which engine in which car?

Post by Ciuco » Tue Aug 02, 2011 9:06 pm

Hey guys, im a NEWBIE here so go easy....

Im looking for a new work car (sales rep) and was thinking about getting a Impreza..looking at spending around $7-$8k

Can someone please explain to me the difference between the LX, GX and RX??

Do they all have the boxer engine?

Cheers
Rob

Early Impreza LX were mainly FWD 1.8l, GX was either FWD or AWD and 1.8l and the RX was AWD and 2.0L if mymemory serves me rightly.

And in the Liberty RX means 2.5L compared to 2.0 or 2.2 for the LX or GX - depends on the year.

Basically make sure you are getting what you think you are paying for.

And for that money I would buy a Liberty over an Impreza - much much better cars and generally better equipped and CHEAPER than the equivalent year Impreza - go figure !!

Thanks for the info...exactly what i was looking for...

I did consider the Liberty but im really after a hatch back and dont really like the liberty wagon..

What year/model should i avoid and which should i look for?

I deffiently want an AWD and the larger 2L engine..

I think an RX would be ideal and a WRX a bonus...thoughts?

LX = Shitbox, GX = Electrics, cruise, better trim etc. RX = even better trim, spotties & WRX grille, skirts & spoiler, pretty sure all Subies AWD from MY98 onward, 1.6L - 2L depending on age & trim

You should be able to find a good early WRX or later roughy for 8k, try sticking to 99/00 Hatch, looks the best of all as it has the crystal lights and better trim grille etc.

Have to agree also, got one of each & I've had at least 10 Impreza's & 5 Liberty's, underneath they are identical except the Lib is 100mm longer, the quality of everything inside is so much better, more room, electric switches & trims last much longer.....A 97/98 RX wagon or imported twin turbo GT/GTB should be easily obtainable in your price. Engines = 2.2L in LX & GX, RX is 2.5L 94 - 98 ........... 2L or 2.5L 99 onward.

Thats a fair point BUT i just dont like the look for the liberty wagon and i need a wagon for work hence the idear of a wrx or rx wagon...

What year can i expect to buy for $7-8k?

I really do like the early model imprezas 99/00 being my fav..but having said that im also happy to buy a clean earlier model...

Seems too cheap to be true for a 2005 Impreza 2.0 5sp Hatch $7800

Or you there is this
2001 Impreza Hatch 2.0 5sp Hatch $7500

The 2nd generation of Impreza's are the go, from 2001 onwards, starting with the round headlights.

He actually should have wrote "an EJ'd L series or MY wagon" which means an older L series or MY wagon with the original motor removed and replaced with an EJ20, EJ22 or EJ25

MY is the old 'round' 70's & early 80's models and the L series is the 'square' 80's and early 90's models. Obviously not what you are looking for - just ignore Mud king91's post.
