Brumby Crossmembers

Post by Corax » Mon Jun 27, 2011 11:44 pm

Hey All,

Doing the usual brumby conversion (bought one that was half done) and for the ej motor to fit 2 large holes have been cut in the engine crossmember. Now my overall intention for this car is to get it passed over the pits, (so when the plod pulls me up they can only have a go at me and not my car) and I have been told that any structual mods have to be signed off by an automotive engineer. This of course would include these bloody great holes.
Now would it be possible and easier to get a engine crossmember from a wrx of the same year as the motor and use that instead of the brumby crossmember? It would already have the holes in it but to what extent would you have to modify it to fit into the engine bay of the brumby? Or wouldn't it fit at all?
Second Question: The gearbox crossmember on the brumby for the ej box has been custom built and to put it nicely, its a little bit...$hit. On ebay a while back someone was selling ej Gearbox crossmembers for brumbies and I was hoping someone on this site bought one off him, (he said he had about 20 I think) or even better that its someone on this site. Anybody point me in the right direction with either of these problems?
Thanks for any help/advice/opinions:)

Cheers,
Corax.

Why are there 2 large holes cut in the crossmember? All that needs to be done is slot the engine mount holes about 8mm, if it is turboed you will need to make clearence for the turbo up pipe (I have pic in my thread of how I did it). Can't help with the crossmember as I just made my own, not a hard thing to do if you have the gear.

Probably for a twin turbo conversion I'm thinking.
