Looking for suggestions... EJ Dual Range in L series
I am putting a Liberty dual range 5sp into my RX and have stumbled upon a problem...
How is the best way to control the dual range selector?
Ive searched and cannot find any information on how it has been done. Do i use the EJ cable and route it to the L series lever, or do i make a rod that replaces the EJ cable?
If anybody has tackled this before, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Good question.
Paul (RSR555) seems to be going with the cable. I'm going to look at doing the same when I get around to having my gearbox sorted.
The issue I think with the cable fitting the L series is that the EJ cable is too long as the EJ lever is mounted further back in the console as opposed to the L series lever.
Cheers
Bennie

Yep.. I saw this after the box was fitted and like Bennie has said, I'm going with the cable setup and I'm going to adapt it to the L.Series lever (just under the gear selector rubber boot). The cable is about 5" too long but feel that just re-routing it over to the LHS of the box (then back to the RHS) thus making it a little tighter to operate but still feels easy enough. I'm going to play with this later in the week, so if you haven't done it by then? I'll post up my pics in my thread.

I was looking at the cable this arvo after i posted the question, (i also test fitted the cable over the left side of the transmission too) it could work, but will require the Liberty lever bracket to produce the 'indent' to prevent it from slipping out of gear.
I believe it will require some fabrication to make it work.
Has anybody else done this before?

My good friend has done it but he has left (last Wed) for Bali for 3 weeks and not sure if he'll check his emails whilst he's away??Suparoo wrote:I was looking at the cable this arvo after i posted the question, (i also test fitted the cable over the left side of the transmission too) it could work, but will require the Liberty lever bracket to produce the 'indent' to prevent it from slipping out of gear.

I'm probably going to look at it this Sunday and report back but I feel that due to the gearbox has detents (internally as well as on the lever) on the selector hub, then it should (cross fingers) hold it in low range.

Thats good to know about the indent, i personally haven't hooked the cable into the selector to test it.
Im thinking that maybe just attach the cable to the l series lever and make a mounting point for the cable sheath
I wont be tackling it for a few weeks yet, i still have to get the engine in so i can finish the gearbox mounts. But i felt like getting the ball rolling and ideas in the air

I was thinking of the same kinda thing with the L Series lever and making the mod for the cable, so it still looked like an L Series from the inside but failing this I have a D/R console from a Gen1 Liberty ( thx Jules
) that I'm going to try and fit inside the L. If it works, I'll be looking for a grey one as this one is blue.
