importing parts from japan

Post by Alex » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:11 pm

hey guys,

has anyone imported parts from japan before?

im specifically looking to get a front bar in for my lib. Im chasing a GT series 1gen3 front bar which are almost impossible to get a hold of here.

I can get a whole bar to my front door for about $350-$400 from import monster, then all it needs is a paint which i can get done for about 100bux, which is a not bad price considering the local wreckers want about $300 for a crappy AUDM bar, when they actually have one which is hardly ever.

Basically what im asking is, is it safe, trustworthy? Has anyone done it before?

cheers

Most likely expensive through normal post
and no idea on who to get it done by?

I would love to go over and pick cheap JDM
parts and bring them back....
All I need now is a container ship!! Muhamuha!

Sorry i'm no help. I've never done it.

I have two mates that use Import Monster fairly regularly, they havent seemed to have any problems with stuff not arriving here.

Import duty can be a big issue on more expensive items ($1000+), but I would say freight is going to be the biggest killer on your bar, as it is so large.

I have bought stuff from Aaron at Import Monster before - he is a top bloke. Also lots of people on rslibertyclub.org have used import monster without a problem. Definitely recommend them and they take a lot of hassles out of getting stuff from Japan.

And just to clsrify what damo666 said - import duty is ONLY payable on items OVER $1000 - so in this case it won't be a consideration.

Alex.. I have used many places/companies in Japan but you really need to build a good trust relationship with them first. I've never used Import Monster but they seem to move a bit of stuff so you shouldn't have any troubles.
