brumby ea82t legality in nsw
Hey guys, hoping you can shed some light on making my 92 model ea82t brumby legal, couple of people have said different things about it
-dont need to worry as its classed as a commercial vehicle??
-dont need to worry cos its still a 1.8L
-need to worry cos its a power increase??
-need to worry cos its modified
I have had it for about 10 years now and kept puttin it off but im gettin older and wiser now lol that and im looking at selling it,doubt it will have dramas passing as ive seen much worse conversions pass with no probs but still...
it has -jap ea82t with topmount but has atmosphere vent bov, minor mods to fit
jap dual range awd 5 speed, minor mods
rx turbo rear disc brakes with braided lines, bolt straight on
coupe seats, bolted straight in
battery in tray in vented housing
2 3/4" exhaust,tad noisey
power steer rack,bolted straight in
someone even mentioned about it needing one for power windows cos they didnt come out with them??? wth??
any info greatly appreciated,thanks!
my main concern is not knowing what needs engineering and what doesnt

Nearest engineer to you to talk with would be Col Potts in Wollongong - had his card until recently.
Turbo is usually the thing they worry about and that is for noise and exhaust emissions not really the power increase, and the disc rear coz you have changed it (for the better mind you), gearbox is owner certified mod
My plan is to shove an EA82T in my Brumby and not talked to an engineer on topic yet
NSW used to have stated in their rulews that to add turbo you must fit disc rear, now it is up to engineer. Hell, Ive been in an STi'd Brumby with just a different master cylinder and drum rears - QLD certified
Insurance Co's is the biggest issue, if you prang they claim you have modded car and not got it engineered , won't want to know you

Best way to find out? Go to an engineer and talk to them directly - no use beating around the bush with what others have said... Be prepared to hear things that you don't want to hearbrendonbrumby wrote:Hey guys, hoping you can shed some light on making my 92 model ea82t brumby legal, couple of people have said different things about it

Hi Mate..
I've been down this road before, was pretty easy to pass, was a few years ago but should be about the same still.. mine was in a 82 wagon..
What it had to have.. Engine had to run all original EA82t emissions, computer, airbox or a airbox, mine was from a liberty, mine wasn't intercooled so not sure about that, and i had RX turbo front brakes, for the extra power, rear brakes didn't count as mine was still front wheel drive.. that was about it.. cant have blow of valves..
