Do EJ22 boxes bolt up to EJ20?
Do EJ22 boxes bolt up to EJ20?
G'day again,
just wondering if a gearbox from behind an EJ22 will bolt up to an EJ20?
Cheers,
Tim.

The bolt-up pattern is the same for early EJs (4 bolt) but later EJs have 8 bolt-up holes. You can make the 8 bolt-up box marry the 4 bolt-up pattern but you need to make a stud for the bottom of the starter motor. They other thing to remember is there are different clutch setups.. push or pull types so just check you have the one you need. Most pull type clutches are used in the turbo models.
As for 4.44 ratios in Libertys.. they were only available in the manual STi Legacys and the automatic turbo models.

Ok.. I see you've changed the ratio to 4.11.. what car are you fitting it to?

was hoping I managed to get that edit in before anyone noticed my ignorance! Had a peek under the back and realised I was wrong...
I'm considering putting it into my 91 liberty wagon, has an EJ20 turbo conversion from an RS legacy. (JDM?)
The box is out of a 2.2 liberty. So it probably has the wrong type of clutch then?
I know the D/R boxes aren't really recommended for the turbo EJ motors but mine doesn't really have monster power and hard launches are not really an option even if I wanted to - which I don't anyway.
Thanks for your knowledge!

lol.. nps Bodge
me being to fast I guess.
Ok if you have a EJ20 Turbo engine then it's best to fit the turbo designed box and clutch setup but not required if you're not going to give the engine too much stick.. good luck trying not to
If you want to? you can buy a "heavy duty" clutch or have your clutch modified to increase the clamping pressure but remember the clutch is cheaper to replace than gearboxes
If you use the EJ20 turbo box then best to get the matching rear diff.. there are lots of different ratios, so best to check the ratio on the box (using the sticker number i.e. Ty752... or count the teeth on the front diff).
